Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

One Fiber is 10 years behind

It will take 10+ years to catch up to folks like Spectrum, they have been laying Fiber for a while now. It makes sense to build out but will take a long time and Wireless doesn't have the time to wait. Also many cities and buildings don't want anymore carriers in their space. Hopefully I'm wrong.

The problem with backhaul to wireless sites in areas that don’t have Verizon as an ILEC is we get charged ginormous amounts of money for 10 gig circuits to AT&T or Lumen instead of providing 100 gig transport to ourselves for free.

The revenue is with wireless.. they need to shore up the wireless networks in the major cities (MSAs) to stop customer churn. Throughput has really gotten bad and mmWave small cell is still just a novelty and doesn’t really provide any substantial coverage.

FTTP all day, every day over FWA. BTW, what feeds those wireless towers/radios?

One of the unfortunate parts of being in telecom and on LinkedIn is that for the 10 years 2010-2019 you can’t scroll far without hearing about fiber, or FTTX.

Now 2020+ is nonstop 5G

😂

Verizon Fios & T-Mobile > VZ wireless & Spectrum, Xfinity, Altice Internet/TV

Too bad they didn’t keep their promises about wiring everyone and gave up on a product people actually want.

FIber was always the future, not wireless. Wireless was always going to be a flash in the pan until everyone and their grandma got a cellphone and then the wireless providers would fight amongst themselves for customers. With all of the streaming going on now no one wants a 5G router on the side of their house but instead want a direct fiber drop.

Wireline wins again.
