Would a person be able to use sick days during the 30 day notice period?

Someone mentioned caregiver or sick days, great idea! This could work as it is usually unplanned. However, would they ask proof from the doctor or the hospital to ensure you are not making this up just to take some days off?

Nope. There is no policy… I double checked… And there’s some vague reference to the notice period Being for transitioning to work.

I started to fight it then decided to just take my time off and not record it. F them. And I did next to nothing the rest of the time as that prove to me that they didn’t deserve my time or effort

if HR is concerned about transitioning the work, ask them what happens to the work with their blindsiding on the spot approach to layoffs?

Is there a policy anywhere that says you can’t use vacation during the notice period? If not ignore HR. Your manager doesn’t have to approve the vacation if they don’t want, but at that point you could probably argue they have to pay you out if they won’t allow you to take it. Either way, take the easy route, make peace with your boss, tell them your plan to transition work and use vacation to move up your last day working. They should approve it. And if they don’t, who cares? Just do it or take sick days. You’re out the door already, they can’t fire you then.

I’ll just tell you what these imbeciles told me… They tried to tell me I couldn’t take my accrued vacation time during my 30 day notice period. HR said the purpose of the notice. Is to transition the work… Despite the fact that I had a couple weeks of vacation saved that they wouldn’t pay me out for.

Despicable people running this place.

Yes, you can and use your caregiver leave as well, that’s an additional 80 hours.
