Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

#VerizonOffshores - un-American company

Verizon is actively gutting American jobs, sending engineering work to India and Ireland while profits line executive pockets. They're choosing greed over American workers. This isn't just bad business; it's un-American. Let's make it clear to every customer: #VerizonOffshores means they offshore American jobs and American values. We can win big by championing American ingenuity and keeping jobs right here at home.

@gp the funny thing is, I don't think the Chinese wants to steal technologies made in India. Verizon is made-in-India

@1sy Sounds like you should not be a manager! If there are no manufacturing jobs here, what is the point of having managers? A few decades ago Verizon predecessor companies had a 4 union to 1 manager ratio, so if there was a strike, then the manager could cover until things were settled. Now we have a management workforce that could not find a dial tone if their lives depended on it.

Not everyone wants to sit on their backsides picking their noses for a living. That is a European and Asian Civil Servant Mentality thing. This is America. Stop being lazy!

If the president really cared about the US he wouldn’t allow companies to export white collar jobs. Instead he spends his time trying to bring back manufacturing jobs while ignoring the high paying jobs being exported. I can only suspect this is because he wants to make toys in the USA that he can give to 14 year old girls?

Here is the next likely US President telling an audience what he thinks about H1bs and taking American jobs.

The offshoring in Ireland is not working out too well as the natives are rioting against the invasion of south asians. The invasion, cheating and corruption are getting old to everyone around the world.

I’ve emailed both of my Senators and both responded that legislation is being discussed and to be drafted later this year that any US company that offshores employees loses tax benefits, and one even suggested a penalty being discussed for all jobs offshores. Who knows if they are telling the truth but Verizon is going to slapped hard over something like this if true.

I dunno, based on the last couple of years, it definitely looks like someone is trying to do an Air India crash of the company. Turning on DEI was the equivalent of turning off the fuel.

@p6 I think she means that it is time for you to get the heck out of the USA, and don't go to Ireland where they don't want you either!

Keep the customer out of service to sell them fixed wireless access
Tell the customer technician will come in 2 months
Than when tech comes they install fixed wireless temporary permanent
Than fwa numbers go up

Dear "Mom", there is a self deportation program that will pay you to self-deport on your own rather than waiting for ICE to come pick you up. Remember, EVERY woman exec was promoted because they are women, and NONE have ever succeeded in improving the price, performance or number of customers.

Verizon has become a 3rd world telecom provider. I wonder how many Chinese spies are working inside the company?

Offshoring isn't new, and it's mostly Indians because that's where it started 20 years ago. Not to mention dollar value compared to the rupee makes it's financially good for Vz.

However you dislike the off-shoring, near-shoring, un-American the staffing have become, nothing beats the leadership mentality that mirrors a Democrat - America Last. Need to staff for major program - offshore, not Americans. Budget issues - what can we off-shore? Need to cut staff - onshore (i.e. Americans), never any of the Global staff - never! All expense paid team builds - not for Americans, but offshore? sure thing!!

Leaders play the bait-and-switch game. They pretend to care, they pretend to lead, they pretend it's all rosy for the VZ life - it's all a facade. They spend more time at offshore locations, spending days there - stateside, they spend as little time as possible. One hour townhall, fly in, fly out - they avoid onshore staff at all costs. No meet-n-greets, no skip levels to speak of. They claim if you do this and that, you'll progress - oh wait, sorry, no budget money for promotions or there are 5 people in front you.... They basically treat off-shore nice to lead you on, until you're not financially useful.

If leadership wants to show commitment to onshore staff - next reductions should entirely be off-shore - 100% (which will never happen, just wishful thinking).

There are genuine leaders in this company - they are just few left, and not in higher positions because they know better.

@b9 Your post doesn't explain why my office is staffed with 90% Indians. They are onshore and get onshore salaries. It isn't about cost savings. Indians hire other Indians over anyone else. This isn't unique to Verizon though, all tech companies have been taken over by Indian staff. Even companies outside of tech are indian operated now. Banks, and more.

Joe Russo and Genia Wilbourn 100% endorse offshoring. And they both continue to fail upward.

Hans and Sampath don't give a cr-p about American workers. They focus on banding and making things sound better by giving them fancy names... remember "CS Evolution" that was just how they branded firing a bunch of internal CS Reps and Leaders and shipped their jobs to India and the Phillipines... and if you're in CS Ops you're next... try an find a tech focused job in America... you can't they're all in India now.

@b9 in theory yes. However, everyone that works at vz knows the mass amounts of people making six figures that do the bare minimum and survived all the rifs. There is no true performance management. The constant reorgs mean zero way to have any performance accountability and people know it. If vz cared about profits so much, they’d take a hard look at the people first in line to show up for planting trees or sitting on the swivel chair while others actually work.

@a2 Perhaps that is because the US workforce is pricing themselves out of the market. Salaries in the US are 25-30% greater than those in Ireland when all of the benefits etc are factored in. If you you move elsewhere in Europe that becomes upto 50% cheaper. So in a competitive landscape, where cents on a customers bill can mean them moving to another carrier, of course VZ with make savings by moving roles elsewhere. If you want the work, then the only option is to reduce salaries/benefiots in the US to become competitive. That is highly unlikely to be the case, as the cost of living, health insurance, 401k and inflation are ki-ling competiveness. Europe and elsewhere do not come close to the US benefits.

Though not one of the countries you're hating on, Japan recently achieved 1.02 petabits per second (Pbps), which is roughly 4 million times faster than average home internet speeds. This breakthrough, which uses existing fiber optic technology, is capable of transmitting over 125,000 gigabytes of data per second, smashing the previous record to bits. With Japan's new internet speed, one could download the entire English Wikipedia 10,000 times in just one second. So now it's not just their high-speed rail network, their best airports and their earthquake-resistant buildings, surpassing the US. Japan has added another feather to their infrastructural cap - and can now boast the world's fastest Internet speed as well. Researchers have achieved, with this blazing speed of 1.02 petabits per second, a network capable of being fast enough to download the entire Netflix library in the blink of an eye.

Hans and the board are exchanging the gold of the company and replacing it with brass and tin and pocketing the difference while the stock price suffers. There are no better engineers or employees than in the USA, no matter how much the company tries to gaslight you differently.

Name one product or service that any of these countries invented, provided, or do better than in the USA? They don't exist, and nor do they have any infrastructure or stability to speak of.

The company was taken over by foreigners who thought that they could do better than the Americans in an American market and expand it globally, but instead they have failed miserably and broken any esprit de corps. So they are going to outsource jobs to take care of friends and cover for the loss of net new customers until the market catches up with them.

I find it pathetic Verizon acts like they give a sh-t about customer service with project 624 after years of laying off domestic workers for cheap Philippines labor. Wireline would all be offshore too if it weren’t for the union. And then they pretend to be caring citizens with their stupid guitar building.
