Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon layoffs soon?

Is it almost that time of the year yet? Haven’t seen the announcement coming through for 3x a week in office, figured they are saving it for maybe a month before the layoff announcement… what have you heard? Based on the performance so far this year, must be something dramatic… maybe announcement in September? What are your guesses?!

I sure hope not. I’m a DEI hire and make an outstanding salary but have absolutely zero skills. I don’t really want to flip burgers for a living.

After 21 years at Verizon and moving to a new career this year you all are blind to how badly run Verizon is until you step out of the red goggles.
They are shutting down the BGCO in Utah by end of year to milk those employees for a soft landing spot for the company for sometime next year. Everything is going offshore outside NY, NJ, and Atlanta. If you are not in those hubs and willing to relocate to those areas if able to get a relocation offer you are toast. Don’t believe me, well you trust Big Red all you want, that’s on you then.
Philippines, India, and a few in Mexico get your jobs. Verizon and Hans are the worst. Wishing best of luck to all in your decisions because it’s a personal journey for everyone and you got to believe what you want for yourself and make decisions that best suit you whether sticking it out or not. The job market is brutal, still have peers who took last year’s severance looking for jobs with extremely stacked resumes. Don’t believe me, start sending out resumes and see how many bites you get, it’s wild how bad it is. So many great people being treated like a number while Hans cashes his big bonus checks off the backs of 99% of the Verizon workforce. It’s so sad.

The RIF will start on 7/28 when employees are asked to return to the office via email. They will self select and not be given a package. Those not returning will receive a job abandonment notice since their connection will only work in-office. It’s coming. If you don’t believe it directly email your unit leader and ask them. 5 years of the stock stuck in neutral is enough. All band 5s received the information last week.

I love Vz. If you don’t then please leave. See, it’s that easy.

@dp really? I've seen very high performers get miffed there first hand. And marginal politically savvy lifers at the company get spared. Quite frequently actually. I've never worked at a company with so many layoff cycles. 2 to 3 a year with a big one every year in Sept. I think Vz tries ro be a good company butbl is struggling with a stagnant market. LEO technology is likely to move them to a failover comms position.

Verizon had over 250,000 employees globally 2000 in 2025 just 95,000 remain that's not small. But guess who keeps getting the big checks the same old demographic its always been.

@ay
Totally agreed. I have been here almost 20 years and despite all the fake news you read by the "people" on this site, the amount of people who have actually been RIFd is actually relatively small, usually well deserved, and a long time coming. It's very hard to get fired here and even when you do you still get a chance to apply for open positions, and a huge payout if you dont. It's funny there are so many complaints about this place...

On the Value side of the business, leaders are crawling up the workers’ butts for ways to save (mostly by impacting customers) and new sources of revenue. You do the math.

This company literally prints money. As much as I see people worry about layoffs in my roughly 10 years here only the biggest id--ts on the planet get fired. Unless your whole team gets chopped you are probably fine. I worked with one girl who everyone hated and didn’t do anything and it took them 5 years to get rid of her.

They are probably waiting to see if they can get a contract negotiated with the union. If not, they will be sending management to training, just in case of a strike. I would bet there will be no layoffs till after the contract is settled.

Sit tight and wait and see. It is cyclic and there is no point in worrying about what may or may not happen.
