Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

New to BNY am I sc--wed here

Joined BNY as an associate developer in February. Haven’t had many interactions with my manager. I know reviews are coming up and I feel I’m doing a good job. I push more code than the senior associates and vp developers on my time some sprints.

I’m waiting on my managers feedback for my mid year. Are they planning to do layoffs before/as they have the review conversation? I’m nervous about this. Just heard something about layoffs next week that will hit a lot of teams.

Unlike many here I’m happy with my team and what I’m working on.

You were sc--wed the moment you accepted the offer & out the door soon enough. Ai can produce code that is buggy and insecure and not require health benefits. Bye.

: @a1 so true, RV gives the new meat time to marinate before consuming. Usually safe until the three year mark and then upper management begins licking their lips in anticipation. At the five year mark, upper management begins actively salivating. If you make it to the ten year mark, be careful. Upper management has their napkins and forks out, ready to put you on a plate. Fifteen years or more, and you’re definitely on the menu.

I was one of my managers favorite directs. We had a great relationship, talked all the time, and they in no certain terms told me my name was on the layoff list and to start looking for another job. It was out of their control and made by higher ups. Don't give that place any more than you have to.

The higher your salary, the bigger the target is on your back. Since you are an Associate, you would be on the cheap end of the spectrum, so it's quite unlikely you would be first in line to layoff.
Also alot of managers at BNY have no interest in people management but get pushed into it to climb the corporate ladder. Not having many interactions with them is not necessarily a bad sign, if the same can be said for the other people they manage. You could try speaking with your team mates to see if you can pick up some tips to build a better manager/manager relationship, if you think it's worth the effort. But equally you work in tech, so they could just be socially inept.
Try not to worry too much on the things you can not control.
(P.S. pushing more code != Good, not saying you do this, but it's especially true when it's sh-t ton of redundant cr-p pasted blindly from AI)

If you're manager was any good, he would have some 1/1s with you. I will say that I know someone whose manager didn't do 1/1s last year. His mid year review said "On-Track" and he thought all was well. Year end review time and he was surprised with a "Below expectations." He was gone a month later. Push for some feedback occasionally from your boss. This place does make people disappear.

You won’t be let go. The reviews started this week so lot of people are out on PIP and they will be let go by 8/15 or 8/22 depending when they were given the PIP. Since you are a developer if you are working on wove platform you will be safe for another year. How good is your manager with his or her superiors and does he showcase his work? If not than you are sc--wed. This company is just like a DMV

You are just food in the refrigerator right now.
You will not be let go as you are too new. But, you will be consumed maybe late next year.
Bon Appetite BNY.
