@qj You appear to be suffering from financial illiteracy.

@f4 Get a financial advisor. You can withdraw from your 401k at 55 years old with a 72t form with no penalty.

Wow, what an earnings report!!! Company stock up 5 percent. The quarterly report was incredible. Why did the company walk away from negotiations with the union, knowing this news was coming out one week later? It's time to get nasty...

Our field work in jersey is pretty stacked !!!I mean we are pretty darn busy.We have less people and everything is a mess making it harder.I want to know what group your in that you have no work so we can put in for that group .Grant you they try to do everything they can to control the work to have less OT.But splicers ,Fios ,Specials,Co techs all very busy.Thats with a group of people that know what their doing so makes it look easy .Take one of our managers who know nothing put him in the field with our work load they will be crying

There is no retirement unless you move to a 3rd world country

Kids college cost more than what pension is worth at 30 years

ins going up for retirees, and most likely for all employees.so now theres very little work.alot of guys were going to leave by the end of the contract, but most will wait till their close to 65 .so the company will be paying us to do very little work or nothing at all cause there will be no work to do. since there is not too much work now and the fios last push is almost over.ill just come too work for the next couple of years and the company pays me until im ready too leave .you think guys are going to just leave with the sh---y pension that we get,i remember when it was NEW York Telephone your monthly pension was half your base salary. Our pension is like a s.s chk, garbage so will be staying to 65 now.

If they buyout the remaining unionized workforce, does that end the contract obligations made to the unionized workforce?

Package won’t really help, interested rates will be down next year, so lumps will be up. No need to rush. Unless it’s a very good package.

There’s still a year to go, doubt there’s gonna be a strike.

Our pension is pathetic and you cannot retire on that alone. Just about no one in VZ is retiring on just a pension, it is a combination of both and SS. But some of these old useless techs need to go and smell the roses before they are laying under them.

@e4 you can’t retire on pension alone. Pensions and 401k is do-able. You have to be 59 1/2 to take your 401k without a hefty penalty. So now you know why people with 30 years stick around a few years longer. Also the work is easy and the pay is decent.

With the huge retiree medical premium increases coming in Jan 2026 who will retire? Apparently it will be a 500% increase.
This will make everyone stick around until
This is resolved

Stop waiting for a buyout that may never come and go enjoy retiring

Luckily for VZ, they will have plenty of resources from Frontier to use in the event of a strike.....

@dh If a package was offered I could go now. I have over 35 years too. If no package, I will be walking the picket line and taking 2 more years from this company. One way or the other they will pay me to leave. I think the package would be cheaper for the company.

Company is already ramping and converting some PSO site for mobile to start handling Fios. The writing is on the wall, Verizon has a year to ramp up a few thousand agents. This will be easy for them. My guess is most current Fios folks will get packages similar to the thousands in mobile customer service last year.

@bf+1k0faz1kp, what is a "government run grocery store"?
What are you talking about?

I didn't want this garbage extended anyway - going broke on the mediocre increases that are out-paced by inflation, and time to restore some of the previous givebacks.

@az, the company could come back from it but, I agree, doubtful.
They'd lose too many subs and government contracts.

They strike this time they won’t be coming back. Say what you want but that’s how it will go.

Re: @am. I don’t think the union has had the company on the ropes for a looong time. And if they did, it hasn’t shown up in any goodies in a contract. Also, pretty sure most of the pension has already been slowly sold off over the past years.

Smart move! The stock has been down heavy and the union has the company on the ropes as they can't afford to let the stock slip anymore without pension funds showing up with pitchforks.

This is the best time to push what the union wants!

I have a bad feeling 2026 will be a strike year. The last two extensions were handled a year in advance.

Now this means the company will have to start planning for training management in spring of 2026, right?
