Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Nobody should feel safe at BNY

One thing I’ve learned the hard way is to never get too comfortable. Always have your resume ready and your network warm. The game can change overnight, and nobody gives you a heads-up. Treat this job like a stepping stone, not a safety net. That mindset saved me more than once.

Not completely true. Most of the people getting packages are on a silent list and know months before they’re going to be laid off. You have to be one of the lucky few to get that not all of us were.

@aj - good to hear that you were kicked but flew off like a bird. Well done! You will be fine in the end. BNY should not define who you are/were or you can be.

Here’s hoping there are layoffs this week and I am the first to go. Give me severance and I will leave this human junkyard with a song in my heart. Pay me to leave and make my day. The biggest mistake of my career was staying here too long. I could care less about BNY and its outlook anymore. I want to get severance. Hoping the HR tooth extraction fairy can make that come true tomorrow morning.

I got laid off earlier this year after more than 25 years. Always had good reviews. Didn’t see it coming. Honestly though, it was a blessing in disguise. Sure money is tight now, but my overall attitude is much more pleasant (per my husband, haha). I do some per diem work here and there but I really am glad they picked me to go. There’s no loyalty at BNY when it comes to tenured employees. Out with the old and in with the new… or just pile the work on the remaining employees.

Remember that the company does not care about you. It does not matter what you produce or how hard you work. When they are ready to get rid of you, they will try to term you for cause so that they do not need to pay severance. There is zero loyalty.
