Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Laid off a while back, yet this company still haunts my thoughts.

My position as event coordinator for Fiber was canceled August 2024, they now use reps and managers to do “Fiber walks” to push Fiber. Since then I got a job at Lowe’s, started at $18.50hr which was much less $ for me but now I’m a department supervisor in paint making $25hr which was a good increase for being there less than a year.

I swear AT&T gave me PTSD or something, all the coachings and stress with the calls/teams stuff makes me still stress about it yet I’m NOT THERE!!!! I sometimes have dreams about it and how I couldn’t stand how they would pressure me and my team to knock on doors instead of just having a tent event which was in my job description, it never said we had to knock on doors! Never!

Sorry for the rant, I’m making a bit less yearly now but am happier.

The stress response to losing your job has been compared to the death of a family member by researchers and professional psychiatrists for good reason. It sounds like OP is coping well. Good luck, young person, you are far better off not working for the sociopaths at AT&T. Sales is a skill that never goes out of demand. You just need to find a company and a product you believe in.

Yes AT&T uses micromanaging, fear and retaliation as tools to get their short term returns since becoming individual contributors. Green dashboards and bonuses are on the line, they could give a damn about You!

Underperforming sales staff are let go every day, in every industry, all around the country. No company eliminates the folks that consistently bring in revenue. If you were let go, it wasn’t a “layoff”, it was because you weren’t producing. You’re probably where you need to be now, stirring paint. You weren’t suited for sales, which was obvious from the tone of your comments. Let it go, move on, and enjoy your new job.
