Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Problems arising from selling subscription services…

“Sirius XM breach unlocks, starts cars”. Security researcher Sam Curry found an exploit affecting the telematics and infotainment systems powered by Sirius XM.

Sirius has been selling subscription services for over 30 years, and their parent organization had total annual revenue of only $568 million in 2021, with negative earnings.

But Ford thinks we are going to have BILLIONS in subscription revenue overnight 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Outsourcing software development can be hit or miss. Obviously first gen Sync was a huge miss by Microsoft and did major damage to customer perceptions. In-house development is pretty much more likely since the top notch software engineers (who studied comp sci, rather than the code monkeys that have made the title meaningless) have already been hired by the top tier companies that specialise in software so all Ford is going to get is B grade at best. And off-shoring is pretty much guaranteed to be a miss, but the every wave of management wants to try it again since "the previous guys were clueless and did it wrong". Going that route you're lucky if you even get C grade people since the best have already immigrated to the US/EU where they'll get 1st world wages. The best that didn't leave for greener pastures are going to be at the top level companies in their location, which leaves us with big heaps of failure.

Ford IT is incompetent. I speak from experience in that organization.

Ford should have outsourced all software development years ago. Look at how pathetic SYNC is.

I hacked the Sirius radio on my vehicle over 10 years ago and have had it free since then. Someone at Visteon leaked how the radio is authenticated to A LOT of people.

Older radios are easier to hack since circuit boards are not as densely populated.

There will be many other engineers disclosing subscription bypasses in the future. It’s your vehicle. Do with it what you want.

First thing I would do is to disconnect the pcm cellular antenna.

I have a security/privacy flaw for you. I have Ford Pass access to a lease vehicle I turned in 2 years ago. I know what the mileage is, how full the gas tank is, what the remaining oil life is, the exact address where this car is parked. I could activate the ho-n and lights, lock it, unlock it or start it remotely.

I am an agency employee working at Ford, and I have sent three separate emails to employees involved with customer service and Ford Pass and "Customer Experience" including Elena Ford.

My concern goes nowhere. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The current owner obviously doesn't use Ford Pass so they have no idea that I still have access to their vehicle from halfway across the country. The system just needs to be reset, but a master reset was never done at the dealer when I turned in my vehicle. And yes, I could remove this vehicle from my Ford Pass app. But at this point I want to see how long it stays on there.

@1dmc+1k14QpBT Really!? You speak with all the self confident of an ignorant. Ford subscriptions are going to be so much worse because we are not even able to have a good IT security in place. I am not going to enumerate all the flaws in a public forum. Suffice to say for now that I know what I am talking about, and you don't.

“…you cannot assume Ford's own latest state of the art data/subscription business will have any security flaws like this.”

Yes, you can. And should.

While Sirius satellite radio is a subscription service, it is of older technology and you cannot assume Ford's own latest state of the art data/subscription business will have any security flaws like this.

By paying for subscriptions, owners will soon figure out what is and what isn't important to them. Love all my little "extras", but i sure as heck wouldn't pay monthly/yearly for all of them. It's like streaming services. .start out with a bunch, then dwindle down. #RudeAwakeningforFord

LOL, once Farley is done cleaning house with SIRPs and PEPs to save a few dollars and sc--w over pension eligible loyal employees he'll cut all the clowns that can't deliver on subscriptions. Ford Next is next to face Farley. Louis-Victor and his org of clowns are on JF's target ( whoever is left after J Park claimed some of their folks are twindling their thumbs ). Lincoln ( again ) is going to get a healthy dose of reorg, Falotico is out, she was useless. From the looks of the vehicles and the HUUUUUGGEEEE fail of Continental the design org is on Farley's target. D(umb)Ford is also on Farley's cut list, he hated Hackett and all the bs he brought with design think. Jimmy needs to show results and very very soon or he's out and he knows it, Doug wants to add CEO to his resume before he jumps in another year or two!
