Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How's this okay?

I made a mistake and complained about something that's been an issue for a while and my manager told me in front of the whole team that he had a replacement lined up if I was so unhappy and I could go. I felt humiliated but kept my cool, but I'm not sure if I can stay here for much longer after that.

sorry you are going through that. A REAL boss would pull you aside soon afterwards and discuss the situation. Secondly, it sounds like there is poor leadership, the leader should be inquiring with staff on a regular basis, 2x a month is a good guidepoint.
One from my career (thusfar) was an AD wrote in my review that I was difficult due to a situation that had occurred 7 months earlier. I refused to sign it and called for a meeting with the director. Long story short, director told the AD that if it was an issue at the time, to address it at the time it occurred not to let it sit for months on end.
Moved out of that group as soon as something opened up and never looked back

I’ll report once I have something lined up. I understand how it’s supposed to work, but I have serious doubts about the process here and won’t risk worsening my situation without a safety net.

This has to be in Value or VCG because we don’t talk like that in the more civilized orgs.

"Report your manager to Ethics"

They are probably at a Coldplay concert with HR 'leadership'

No surprise. Report him/her but good luck with that.

You need to report him to ethics. Have you not done those trainings?
It’s important to report the incident. If they do anything retaliatory, it’s a cause for termination

Yet, this very morning, we have an email from Sam titled “elevating how we work”. Where she shares “three updates on how we will strengthen our culture and V Team community.” I cannot bring myself to watch her video. Coming from her, will be pure sludge full of empty buzzwords

What surprises me most is how the Cramers of the world haven’t called this out. The disconnect between Verizon’s polished investor messaging and the reality on the ground—morale collapse, contractor churn, performative transformation—is glaring.

Maybe Wall Street’s too focused on short-term cost cuts and dividend stability to care about long-term rot. Or maybe it’s just easier to repeat “strategic transformation” than to ask: Why is so much talent walking away? Why is innovation so surface-level? Why are contractors treated like liabilities and employees like threats?

But I guess this is where we are. Optics over outcomes. Buzzwords over substance. Everyone plays along—until the bottom drops out, and then it’s suddenly “Who could’ve seen this coming?”

I was a contractor and was let go due to the same kind of situation. I voiced a professional opinion during a team meeting and this is what essentially put a target on me to let me go. They say they want people to feel comfortable speaking up and collaborating, but truly they do not! A manager I had at the time told me that my job is to listen, and their job is to make decisions, and they are not interested in my opinions. Great culture!
