Remote accommodation denied

Has anyone had their medical accommodation denied during the yearly recertification?

Accommodation requests now are only for ADA related items. There is a different process for other types of requests; I just can't recall at the moment

Only mo--ns running this bank would think they know more than a medical doctor. It's pretty typical of just how detached this place has become with reality.

Unless my "Workplace Accommodation" includes a bathroom buddy to help pull me up from the commode when my bi-lateral radiculopathy (form of sciatia) kicks in which leaves me numb from the knees-down as I struggle to balance while taking care of the "paperwork", I am not RTOing!

Yes and I fought hard and had a doctor letter requiring it.

I always told the soulless drones at Lincoln Financial "Well I'm gonna follow what my doctor said, and they said for me to work from home. Unless you have a medical degree that is."

@fg you realize this means you will be laid off, right? It says right on your accommodation letter that you are not exempt from location strategy.

@dh You remind me of those types of people that will judge a person getting out of a vehicle parked in a handicap spot and either say or think, "Well, you don't look handicapped...". Glad to know that God provided you with X-ray vision and a medical degree.

Oh FFS, the 'resistant to change' nonsense. Funny how it's only applied when the company is sc--wing us. I've been driving to a building for no reason for 3 years, at this point, 100% WFH is 'the change', so it's not me that's resisting change, it's Hudson Yards.

@e7 Odd, last month mine was reapproved for 3 years.

I'm in an admittedly unique situation, though. I'm over a hundred miles from the nearest core or specialty site for my LOB. They can't force me into an office without paying me a severance, per their own policies.

They are no longer issuing permanent (no end date) accommodation approvals - they are all for one year. Mine was just reapproved for one year despite being a permanent medical condition- the rep said this is now standard.

yes. i had mine partially revoked - was asked to come in 2x per week which was fine. however, they made no effort to provide the needed accommodations while i was in the office so i didnt end up staying long when i went in.
my lead for my team would come in for about 1-2 hours and then go home.
until they start tracking the hours in the office many people are doing the same.
i did get displaced though so i feel the remote accommodation and my age had a LOT to do with that. i was a top performer on my team and no performance or other reason to let me go.

@OP not denied. WFH is just one type of accommodation. They are not denying your need for an accommodation they are simply accommodating you differently. They don’t expect anyone to be happy about it i am sure. Change is hard when someone has been remote for ever they feel entitled, threaten lawsuits and so on. There are always a minority

I can’t think of any permanent disability that would prevent someone for being accommodated at the office even though it would be challenging. I see handicap people coming into the office but yet i find co-workers that had some injury from the past that no longer exists which prevents them from playing sports but somehow coming into the office is a undue hardship.

I think it is unfortunate that there are still doctors out there that will write a note for anything. Look at SDI fraud. I do think it says a great deal about the persons character

Actually, they should be "targeting" anyone. Once they are done with the remotes, guess who's next? YOU. Your cute little badge swipes won't save you from anything. The compliant are already the majority of terms, and it's only going to get more lopsided as we move along.

They should be targeting the people who got WFH accommodation years ago with no end date. At that time, anyone could get an accommodation. Times have changed.

Unless you can provide documentation that basically says it's physically impossible for you to go into an office, they will target that first.

If they can't source you an in office accommodation - you may get a WFH extension.

If you were previously given a WFH accommodation for an ADA disability - they cannot really take it away without proving undue hardship for the business. If it was originally given, the employer acknowledged that: it was warranted, your condition was severe enough for it, and it didn't cause the business hardship or excessive cost.

my .2c, file an inquiry w/ EEOC

The only "accommodation" that should be needed is the "it will save the company a ton of money and reduce risk" kind. FCS/FHY/FRTO.

As @ad said if they can accommodate your needs in office then it’s normal to decline your WFH now. If you decline to return then it’s on you. Perfectly legal. No lawsuit bs like the other stupidly said.
