Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

In retrospect, being laid off was a favor

At WF, it’s easy to completely lose perspective. I got caught up in the constant pressure, toxicity, and anxiety too. I stopped thinking about my own interests, let alone imagining that I could actually work somewhere else.

I was laid off six months ago. It felt awful at the time. But three months later, I landed a new job, at a much smaller company that actually values my skill set. It has nothing to do with banking. The pay is comparable, I leave when office hours end, the manager is competent (a dying breed), and the atmosphere is friendly. Honestly, I sometimes think it must be a trick.

I felt like cr-p when I got my notice at WF. Now? It might’ve been the best thing that could’ve happened. I’m not saying you should pack up and quit tomorrow. But don’t ever forget that there are other options. You owe it to yourself to look around.

@dz We are still working but the tension is horrible. Colleagues are stressed with headache and stomach aches. Yes we aren't forced to stay but we kinda just want it to end. Feels like a divorce but the other party has not signed the dotted line setting you free. For those who know, on the day you are let go. Do we all receive an email, text, or an announcement at the Center in the morning or anytime during the day???

So at what point do they cut off all your access and all you have access left is to DevU for training opps?

I too, was laid off after almost 30 years of service. I enjoyed my team and my work. But I too lost perspective and thought no one else would hire me. It took me three months to find a comparable position. I am healthier and happier and I wish you all the best When making your future decisions!

OP, there are just as many sad stories as your happy story. I am glad for you but there are and will be many bounced out of Wells that will not easily rebound. I hope your new gig stays a good one.

To those contemplating exiting sans planning, the job market is horrible.

I chose to leave Wells on my own. I hated to leave my potential severance, but found out my dept was letting attrition do it's own thing, me being one of them. Within one month, myself and three other people chose to leave. For those of you deciding what path to take, within Workday, search the HR for "resignation notice". The HR paperwork I found noted a 30 day resignation notice period per Wells Fargo. My 30 day notice was accepted and due to my access to sensitive customer info, my access was cut off 3 days later. I basically had a 27 day mini-severance. It took me a few months to get hired on with another company but managed to make the shift away from Wells....completely. I have been with my new company for a month now. It took me a while to get comfortable with the fact my new employer actually cares about customers best interests, along with my own. It took me over two years to prepare to leave Wells. I hope my little story gives others hope and confidence that leaving is possible. I had 13 years invested with Wells, so my severance was not as big as others, but still gave me pause leaving and so thankful I took that chance and jumped ship. Good luck to anyone looking to leave, I found it to be a new lease on my career!

@d8 yes. I'm aware that they are closing Lubbock in about a month. So, your assumption is spot on.

We were notified at the phone bank center in Lubbock Texas we are shutting down by the end of 2025. No definite date yet but managers have packed their offices, we’ve been told to take all our personal things home. I think it’s this month. Is it normally on the Tuesday after payroll Friday??

@ac If I'm not mistaken, severance is capped at 52 weeks, so anything over 26 years of service gets the same amount of severance. At least that's what the chart in the benefits book seems to indicate (Appendix F page 7)

Hey, Bob. Get off your phone. Get back to your register. The drive thru is backing into the streets again!

That's where I'm at. I could retire, but I like my team, I think I'll stick around a bit and see if Ol' shart is going to give me a retirement gift of 14 months of pay. He's a despicable person and has downsized way to many of my friends.

It is not a dying company. Rather it is worse… the undead. A zombie with no soul and no purpose. You escaped becoming one with that, so congrats.

@OP this gives me hope! I was let go Tuesday after more than 30 years with them. So right now I’m still trying to see how I’ll get through this. Thanks for the post.
