Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Free coffee. What is the obsession a with this company about free coffee

I am just amused that they promote free Starbucks coffee as one of the great perks when you work at BNY. The CAO who looks like an ET mentioned in an interview with a magazine that free coffee is where people share ideas. If your employees can be bought by free coffee imagine how low the standards are. Not to mention it is a precursor for diabetes.

@kq So "we" worldwide don't do or get free coffee, people in New York do and RV is yet again outed as a charlatan?

I believe the "free Starbucks coffee" perk in USA came about during COVID. this was a perk for essential employees that had to report in-office (when the firm had a number of employees in USA working from home).

From my understanding this perk was to end when return-to-office talks began in late 2022 / early 2023, but there was such a strong wave of disappointment from staffers addicted to this free coffee, a decision was made to keep this incentive.

Can someone explain what he's talking about here? Do some locations get free barista coffee because Edinburgh has only ever had rubbish instant coffee out of a machine, just like literally every other company that gives 'free coffee' in this manner.

@ex perhaps the restrooms won't be free anymore, especially after drinking all that coffee. Hey! Another income stream for RV! (you see what I did there?)

Free coffee in lieu of raises. At least they didn't hand out paddleballs.

Kool-Aid is the preferred cold beverage option. It is always dispensed at Town Halls and is the most popular serving of our foreign leadership.

Its all they have left to offer after taking every other award and recognition program away. They can afford it after sc--wing people out of their jobs and pushing them out of their offices so their broke as--s can close the doors on them. But hey dont worry. They still also plan on opening sites in more high cost areas like los angeles. That way more will lose positions and you wont get that free coffee anymore

Worked in NYC banking and Wall St. for 30 years across half a dozen companies - always had free coffee from the Bunn machine, tea, hot chocolate. Touting free coffee is tantamount to bragging about free restrooms.

Free coffee is great.... CEOs bringing it up on TV (or internal comms) is embarrassing.

@b5 That's grounds for dismissal. Don't worry, be frappe. Let's spill the beans! Life's a grind. Java nice day!

I thought I would jump in with a few too. I don’t have much to do today here at BNY

“free coffee is where people share ideas”
I wonder how much they paid a phoney baloney consulting agency to come up with that one? Who in the blazes shares anything getting lousy coffee here? You are programmed to want to get some hot caffeine as quickly as possible so you can get back to your desk as quickly as possible for the next absurd conference call. I hope Robin stops the coffee soon. It’s not free anyway because the cuts to our benefits are what pays for this garbage. Free? LOL, this company is run by con artists.

Robin acts like a free cup of coffee makes up for the terrible culture and the continued reduction in benefits & lack of job security
