Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I don't buy it

Do you think that Cisco cares enough to put impacted people in open positions? I certainly don't.

They don't.....it's been proven year after year. The biggest problem is when Cisco tells the market a percentage (5%) or a number. Then stockholders are expecting to see the blood to match. That's why Cisco freezes hiring during a LR, and also tells mgmt (secretly...can't leave a paper trail) to not hire LR folks for open positions.

It wasn't always that way though. I got hit in the mid-2000s and had 3 internal job offers within a week.....everyone knew that good people were getting let go, so they backfilled open positions with them. Fast forward 5-6 years, and Cisco stopped that practice. Now you have to have a VP covering your back to stay in Cisco after being LR'd. I've watched it happen a few times....but not often.

Of course not. They know we know it’s BS and they don’t even care.

More grade 5’s, fewer grade 12’s.

The restructuring will include the shuffling, layoff and hire of new talent and the slimdown of its real estate portfolio to reflect an increase in hybrid work. A company representative told Fierce the plan will impact about 5% of its workforce. As of July 30, 2022, the company had approximately 83,300 full-time employees, meaning approximately 4,100 people will lose their jobs.

But the representative noted Cisco will be hiring for other roles and expects to end its current fiscal year with “roughly the same” number of employees as it had at the start.
