Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Any news for Lake Mary, Florida

Almost 2 years ago, I saw news that BNY Mellon had planned to expand the Lake Mary, Florida office. Has there been any updates?

Also what is it like working at the Lake Mary, FL location. Real answers please and thank you. I have no plans on joining BNY Mellon after reading all the stories and comments here. I’m just curious to see how Florida compares to Pittsburgh and NYC.

@gq don’t forget Pune too. Hmm to the Mensa members at the top of the house making these decisions, maybe next time consult with the weather experts regarding the likelihood on the frequency of significant and catastrophic weather events in either of these two designated GROWTH CENTERS?! At the rate of the intended, decreasing number of U.S. based employees, what’s the plan on disaster recovery if either site goes down since you’ve forced out so many knowledgeable U.S. based employees.

Teammates in LM report no parking and no assigned desks. Forced to come in 4 days a week and never know where you will be able to sit. Central FL traffic is terrible and I-4 is a nightmare.

@dp yeah Alejandro is the dou--e bag driving the closures and forcing people wfh then laying off because they wfh. Make that sh-t make sense. On top of it hes literally created a discriminatory precedent for wfh employees where they cannot get promoted, cannot get raises, cannot be a hiring manager, aren't included in events or recognitions when the rest of this sh-t hole is participating. Not sure how he thinks this d-mb sh-t is ok

They are receiving tax credits for moving operations to the state of FL and Orlando/Lake Mary were lower cost cities that made sense to move to within FL. Only reason they pushed to move more jobs there.

Only BNY would label Central Florida a growth location.

I’m still baffled that BNY continues to operate out of Lake Mary—and even more so that they still refer to it as a “strategic location,” albeit in hushed tones and conspicuously absent from any corporate fanfare.

Given Robin and his unholy trinity—Dermott and Alejandro—rarely make a move without consulting the Goldman Sachs playbook, I would’ve bet money they’d shutter Lake Mary in favor of Goldman’s Brickell Bay digs in Miami.

Alejandro, in particular, has been anything but subtle about his disdain for Lake Mary. He’s made it clear he sees no future there, going so far as to mandate that every requisition include an MD-level justification for why the role can’t be offshored to India. That’s not strategy—it’s slow-motion abandonment.
