Any notifications sent out yet?

Read on here that lists were sent to managers. Anyone get notified? Anyone get a list?

From my colleagues, this time, line mgrs have no say about the list. The only thing line mangers might have had an influence was the IPF they put in earlier in August. They have ZERO says on investment and prioritization decision. However, many managers inflated the number based on relationship in CISCO. It is a common practice. Therefore, the cut will be un-even among different teams/geo.

"Please know, it’s VERY difficult giving and getting the news. The stress is intense on both sides."

Maybe true for you, but not for many sociopathic "leaders." They don't care. at all.

I’ve sat on both sides of the table for LR’s. The day I was supposed to give the notice, the person called and said he had to get on a plane to say goodbye to his dying father. Notice was delayed weeks so he could recover before getting the news. Cisco demonstrated its heart in this scenario.

My experience, no heads up, just an urgent “I need to talk to you NOW”. I was given a ton of support to find a new role and found one.

Please know, it’s VERY difficult giving and getting the news. The stress is intense on both sides.

I was working until 6:30 pm, while my peers already left for the day. On the way home, I got a call from my manager telling me that I was laid-off. Heartless, especially I was the one that was working hard and late as opposed to my peers.

And don't try to escape on vacation.

Yup, that doesn't work. A guy on my team put in a PTO request 3 or 4 weeks before his planned PTO date to go to AZ for his Grandfather's milestone birthday or wedding anniversary. It was some big deal for his family & everyone was traveling in for it.

The manager had approved his PTO request, and, if I understood him later, he had to approve that PTO request knowing that he'd have to call that teammate while on PTO at his family's home celebrating some special event to say "You're being LR'd, we're cancelling your PTO request so it doesn't get used and you'll get paid that as accrued PTO. Enjoy the rest of your time w/ your family."

As a manager, it sucks to have to give people this message, especially if you didn't have any input into who below you is getting the axe, and having to tell them while they're with family celebrating has to especially suck knowing that every time someone in that family says "Hey, you remember when Grandfather celebrated ..." and they all think 'Yeah, and so-and-so got terminated while he was there."

Always beware the 15 min "surprise and urgent" meeting from your manager or his manager (depending on if the first manager is let go). Similar story, seen it many times. And don't try to escape on vacation.

When I was LR'd a few years back, I just got a call from my bosses boss. "no 1:1 or notice" He told me I would receive an email with details of the package. After the call I immediately quit working, canceled any meetings, and did not share any info related to the job. I then shifted my focus on getting another gig.. I did get a better position, higher pay, and better work culture with my new job. So keep your head up this could be the best thing for you as it was for me!!! :-) Cheers

When will they send out 1-on-1 invite? Friday? Sunday?

That's a damn good question. In the past, notifications have always been between Tue and Thurs, with managers making the majority of the notifications on Tue, so the invites went out on Mon.

I've seen manager's who cancelled a Thur 1:1 and re-scheduled for 8:30AM Tue, which is a sure sign. I've also seen a manager who sent the Tue AM invite out at 5:30 Mon when the year-end earnings call ended,

In either case, any 1:1 or untitled meeting requests for Monday morning sent between now and Sun are bad news.

I believe I'm on the list. My director scheduled a meeting with me for Friday the 9th. No one else on my team has received this request.

Why is your director scheduling a meeting w/ you for an LR? Are you a direct report to a director?

In my experience at Cisco over the past 15 yrs, the manager's handle the notifications, unless the manager is being impacted as well. And Fri is the business day before the notifications are supposed to be going out.

Have you considered that the director is going to tell you not to come in that day because the rest of the team will get notified on Mon? That could be awkward.

I doubt that I will see a list at all. No managers were consulted on the impacts of losing a person would affect our customers or whether it was even the right person on a team to be let go.
