can confirm it's all based on salaries/sev payout and then performance. i've been involved in communication planning for RIFs as a company of mine was acquired by oracle... they care about getting the work DONE not done well or as good as it can be
Perhaps - Data centers cost money, salaries are one of the highest costs for a company.
Reduce labor costs by getting rid of the labor, use funds for assets that do not require salaries, benefits, RSU's etc
