I'm not bitter/angry about being let go after 16 years. I've supported 3 product lines in that time and I got to work with some really bright, creative and delightful people. I'm going to miss them and the job. I wish everyone well in their future endevaors.
15 years loyalty as IC5 Software Developer gone in 15 min meeting disguised as a status update. First layoff in 25 year career.
@bp From what I have heard being a car mechanic has changed a lot as well. Gone are they days when replacing something like a water pump or a starter is a simple 30 minute task. And more and more electronics in cars than ever. Heck, something as stupid as a malfunctioning headlight can brick a car.
@bp you talk as if working hard Will keep you from getting laid off
Fu-k Oracle time to unionize and strike.
@a5 there is still a lot more room to trim. Chairwarmers old or new employee need to go. Dont want to work , dont want to learn anything is in wrong industry. If you wanna do same sh-t for 25 yrs go be a car mechanic. But IT industry is different. Adapt constantly or get trimmed.
Nobody cares, the industry teams in Oracle don’t exist. It’s just pure discounted sales of compute and storage on OCI. Imagine proces on par with Aws or GcP nobody would buy it.
Work harder on getting AI more effective so you too can be let go!!
Basically what I was told a few months ago
Aint this fun?
@aj but you are the one now doing the work of two or more people. That su-ks, and rarely gets reversed.
There is a difference between having 10 or 20 years of experience and being with the company for 10 or 20 years 🤷
It's not your fight to worry about it.
Got ta make way for the new AI comming. I think thats all.
It’s like brainless shark eating random people on the beach. I cannot find any logic strategy for this sh---y steps taken against the longterm employees.
