Thread regarding Ford layoffs

It's good to see the "four-day week idea" spreading

A century ago, automotive titan Henry Ford found that when people worked fewer hours in the week, they made fewer mistakes, Mr. Grant said.

Things have changed so much since then. Nobody among the current so-called leaders would even bother with something that could benefit both the employee and the company. Ford used to be a leader, now it's a joke.

Mgmt is always looking for ways to reduce costs and a 4-day work wk might be the perfect solution. Workers are in the office 4 days each week (not 5), so bldgs can be closed one day weekly. Working 32hrs (not 40) shifts their status to part-time, thus salaries and benefits are reduced. To me, it sounds "to good to be true" for employees ... but great for the company's bottom line.

The 32 hour work week reduces your wage by 20%.

Don't we already have that... Friday was always a bonus day...

In reality there was never enough time to do everything. Some employees would give up evenings and weekends to get the job done and others had more work life balance. In the end Ford did not care who I was on Aug22.

I had plenty of friends that retired and stayed...What ever works for you and I pass no judgement. Don't think anybody gives a rats a$$ about you on your last day.

For those who are confused about the new 4 day work week idea. It is not a 40 hour work week but an actual 32 work week with 4, 8 hour days. It is being tried in most of Europe with great success. It also has the benefit of having the same pay as the 40 hour work week. The new 32 hour week is considered full time with any hours over that time would be OT.

Countries that are trying it out are experiencing a boost in their economies. The reason for that is that people have time off to enjoy hobbies or travel and thus spend more money.
