Thread regarding Texas Instruments Inc. layoffs

Supervisor

No meeting, no heads up. Supervisors in MFG side don’t even know who got laid on their team on A/B shift. How did they pick the people.. crazy

Honestly wish there was more explanation around this than the “own your career” fluff they throw out there. This feels like trying to read tea leaves.

@ev you can figure out your ranking by your review. DNM, M-, M, M+, E. It's a bell curve. Think about everyone in your group. Make a list. Where would you put yourself? Start documenting what you do to deserve a better ranking & give that feedback to your boss in your self review. Come to work on time, don't call in, don't take long breaks, build positive relationships, get to know the managers above your boss. Don't be seen on your phone, follow fab protocols. These are the basics that will help your rankings. And yes, I'm referring to those working in the fab. People in exempt roles are ranked a little differently. It's called top, bottom, core for them.

@by not all bottom ranked were let go. If you were, then step it up... yet individual contributors aren't told their ranking, but it can be gleaned (usually) by merit increases. Or if you have an honest manager.

It seems it was performance based. If you were on a PIP, you were most likely to go first. Next were the bottom ranked. The decisions were made in HR, based on the data they had from EOY rankings/reviews. EOY had recently been submitted to HR. Makes sense why they pulled in those deadlines early this time around.

Fear mongering. That’s how sr management operates these days.

Usually first step is Bottom10 performers. Next step is early retirement offers. And then random who they like or not…. or being in the wrong place/org….

@a2 very good question. Some heavy hitters got hit today on the EE side. I talked a higher up in dmos5 and a lot of people don’t know WTH going on, they letting off heavy hitters too. I see a first of the year rehire phase. They never get this right.
