Is it enough to have your info regularly updated or do recruiters also look for regular blog-type posts to show that you're active? I haven't had the need to look for a new job in well over a decade and I'm willing to admit that I'm rusty when it comes to that.

I’ll say this - I’ve seen a lot of people who make the cheesy blog type posts move up in the retail world.
Honestly I think senior management loves the exposure of these positive posts and wants these people elevated.

Everyone that posted about the general cheese/uselessness of LinkedIn also stated that they've never had trouble finding work without it. (i.e., they're savvy enough to easily find work without it.)
It's silly to think that something like LinkedIn would make or break someone's employment situation. If it does, that would actually point to a lack of savvy, not an abundance of it.
Best way to organize your job search and since most recruiting applications use their APIs, it makes it easier to apply to companies. Clearly some of the folks here aren't savvy on how to leverage their network or the value of social media in a job search scenario.
LinkedIn is a social media site that masquerades as a jobs site.
LinkedIn can help but it is mostly used by the those who tag Charlie and say how wonderful it is that we are all together again.
I don’t think you need LinkedIn but it can be a good source of information. When I am job searching, I use LinkedIn to see which companies are using it to post their job openings. It can be helpful in understanding the effort the company is taking to recruit for their open roles and an easy way to see all of those open roles in one place.
On the flip side, I’ve never applied for a job through LinkedIn; I’ve always applied through the company’s site. And not every job opening ends up on LinkedIn, even if the company does post some roles on LinkedIn. It’s just another tool/resource you can leverage but by no means a must. And you don’t need to be active (posts, comments, etc.) on LinkedIn.
I have never used LinkedIn. I don't have a profile. I use jobsites for employment.
I've never used LinkedIn and have never been unemployed, and have been in the workforce for decades. I can't just snap my fingers and have a job offer, but with a good looking resume and polished interview answers, I've never been in job market more than a couple months.
While it might not be harmful, LinkedIn is definitely not needed.
I was in your boat when I left a few weeks ago. My LinkedIn has 2 bullets per role and a detailed summary at the top. I’ve never made a post other than to congratulate people who posted they had new jobs.
I applied to maybe 15 openings on LinkedIn but didn’t get any traction. I had better luck going directly to company websites and applying. When I applied on the sites they definitely went to check out my LinkedIn.

It is not necessary. I have never used it and have no problems finding work. Be different than everyone else. Also, LinkedIn loves censorship, mandates and all the rest. So if those things bother you, don't use their platform.
