Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Our manager assures us that we are safe

It would be nice if I could trust our management but I don't trust them at all.
How would you react if your manager was trying to convince you that you will be safe?
I think that the hidden intention is to squeeze us as much as possible, to be maximally productive until the last hour.

Maybe everyone has finally realized that Cisco does not care about employees and are spending their time setting up interviews to find a new home

Notifying managers are aware of who is on the list. Directors and above. If you can see any calendars appointments marked private then it’s probably for training on how to notify impacted staff. If you get a meeting invite Sunday night then you’re being LRd. We have at least one team and it’s lead being LRd and they don’t know about it yet.

When is the private meeting? How many people are in the meetings?

"The majority of us will not be hit"

Obviously Sherlock! Failed your statistics course didn't you?

Does anyone believe that a business can be successful with executives, who are so far above the day-to-day execution, making personnel decisions at the individual contributor level?

It's really no wonder that Cisco has been an innovation laggard over the last decade. The senior executives only really care about squeezing the cost out of the legacy networking business.

That sounds pretty comforting. Some managers know who is on the list, others don’t know.

Look at the numbers. The majority of us will not be hit. Everyone calm down.

First line managers are definitely on the list as well, higher ups would not risk letting them know at this point. Maybe Monday.

FACT
VP's together with HR make up the list which includes Directors and below
It is based on oldest age and highest salary
They will include a few young employees for lawsuit protection
This is why your Director or Manager know nothing, because good chance VP put them on list since they trend older and higher income

I told my team the day after earnings (day of the general check-in) that they were safe. It’s the truth.

I don't believe that managers don't know anything. It's Friday and my line manager just canceled our scheduled 1:1 for Monday. Some people have posted in other threads that they were told by their line manager that they're on the list.

First level manager here: And I know nothing. My director also knowns nothing. The part that makes me nervous is that our new Sr. director just took over our group, as did the VP above them. So they know nothing about the people or the work being done, yet they are making decisions about who to cut? Doesn’t sound like a “thoughtful approach” as Fran said.

Line managers generally know nothing. The lists are provided by director and vp level to HR. How do I know this ? Well I spoke with my director a couple of weeks ago and asked to be put on the list. My director told me that the lists were already made by our VP and submitted to HR.

On the contrary, my manager has steadfastly refused to offer any indication of whether we are safe or not. Had a 1-on-1 this week and asked point blank. Was told the managers in our group knew nothing. I also asked a friend of mine who is a manager for a different group, and he said the same.

I find it difficult to believe that front line managers know nothing on December 9th, but it could be true. Or not true.
