Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Future of R&A?

Some departments in R&A were hit hard in august. With the retiree news trickling in, and then JB being replaced by MJ…I’ve heard rumor they’re disbanding R&A, even with MJ as director. I know for a fact I saw a calendar notice on my boss’s boss calendar about dismemberment of EU R&A (which has since been set to private setting in outlook), and the meeting I saw was Dec 1. DF has said “technical talent” on R&A is valuable; does that mean the rest of us are on the chopping block? Our department has lost 50% of our workforce since November 2021…should we start looking elsewhere for a job (I have been since august)? Or was R&A too badly hit and we might survive another year or two?

Even if you know this, you should be looking for a new job. No one is safe in the next round of cuts. NO ONE.

Research & Advanced (engineering).

If you are a salaried employee at Ford working directly on any company products…you should know this….

What is R&A? I’m guessing the “A” is Architecture, but what is the “R”?

If R&A were cut, would anyone notice? Very little of value has come out of that organization.

Based on my experience R&A has been on a downward decline for the past decade and has become something of dumping ground for LL3 and above who are too politically connected to be fired. Many experienced GSRs and LL6 with decades of experience were walked out during the SRD in 2018 and lately in August. Many of the younger millennials who were hired in within the past couple of years have already left for other companies and seem to be thriving elsewhere. Like you mentioned many of the departments have been completely gutted over the past couple of years and I wouldn't be surprised at all if DF and JF are the process of dismantling R&A since JB is retired.

we need good leaders! The current leadership is pathetic. LL6s seem to be in their own world with 0 training/skill at managing a team…………. Can keep on going, but the promotion and hiring process seems inclined to a-s lickers.

My LL6 doesnt know it, but almost each gsr on his team will be leaving soon. Hope they read this and fix themselves. Or make it worse for that guy on the team who does everything as per instructions.

@glg+1k7HzoOB apparently it's get rid of the workers and keep the leaders. Of course the leaders are clueless. In CV where I am, they gutted the architects. Laid off almost all the LL6s and GSRs save a handful. But kept almost all of the LL5s they were reporting up through. Of course the talk around the virtual watercoooler is that the LL4 kept his buddies and got rid of everyone else regardless of performance, skill and know how.

The leadership in this area call it The New Ford. All of us still here call it a job until we find something else.

It may mean that they keep some of the EU R&A experts and use them for ICE programs elsewhere. Here in EU their very last job before they will fall into eternal boredom is EU7 emissions for Panther. According to the workers council large job cuts are coming to EU accompanied by a too early end of ICE Ford vehicles here.

Why are the R&A LL3s and 4s still around? How much deck shuffling can be done before someone realizes the leadership have been failures? R&A has been a money pit for years.

Check Job postings for Ford VP, Head of Enterprise Architecture, Research and Developer Experience. It sounds like our new VP or director.

JB, MJ , JS etc etc, dont care. They decided to Re org before even the new director got hired, lol. Does that even make sense?

To higher management at Ford R&A and some LL6s. We have degrees, stop treating us like sheep.

Its best to find a job elsewhere. Most of the higher ups are well off and can take a job loss hit. Don't depend on Ford, take advantage of them and find a better paying job. Its ain't worth working for people who haven't seen success.
