@k0 Here is timeline:

  1. People are notified of termination (notification date). If they worked at a location subject to WARN, they are kept on the payroll for 60 days
    2 The WARN notice is published. This usually happens on or after the notification date, so by the time you see it, the people have already being laid off.
  2. After the WARN period, the folks are formally terminated (termination date), separation agreement is sent, and if they sign it, the severance is paid.
    So, bottom line, when the WARN is published, the layoff has already happened and the people have already left the premises with their dignity in a box. So if you can tell us of new layoffs based on a published WARN it means you traveled on the future and see it posted BEFORE! the layoff actually happened.

@hh EMEA layoffs happening now are part of the wave that started Aug/Sept in US and India. So we already know those numbers. There are not additional ones this week.

@k0 not gy, but WARN is supposed to give a 60 day notice to those affected by a layoff if certain thresholds are met. And Oracle does abide by the law and give those affected 60+ days notice. Rather than have those people work those 60 days, Oracle keeps them on payroll but they do not work. The WARN notice you see for November is from September layoffs.

It is the 3rd Nov. I am ready. What has happened? Is Romania layoffs a fake?

@k0 not sure what WARN was supposed to do in theory, but due to wonderful legalized bribery process called lobbying in the land of free, there are exceptions carved out of any laws, which in practice so far showed all published WARN noticed posted for jobs already cut after the fact. I think, in particular, they by-pass timelines with a "gardening leave" hack.

@hh IDC axed through August. NA was axed through September. Pacific was axed through September - early October. Now it's Europe turn, which drags due to strong labor protection law.
Romania 10% cut is still the same 10% global cut which started on August.

@gy I can't figure out if this is some sort of sarcasm or a joke. If by chance you are serious please enlighten me on the definition of WARN notices.

@fd

If 400 are being axed in Romania, one can only imagine how many thousands will have the same fate in (much more expensive) North America

@d1 Can you travel in time? WARN notices are posted after the fact.

All major US Tech Giants are massively investing in Ai infrastructure, for that they need to save money, and to do that they are cutting jobs. Once the Ai infrastructure is fully fledged more jobs will need to be cut. This is only starting, American people will have a hard time finding jobs and graduates will be out of jobs. This is like how Trump managed Covid. Americans are basically doomed Lol

Areas/orgs already hit will most likely be spared this time if indeed there is another layoff.

There have not been any credible rumors of a new wave of layoffs in November. There are some still happening in EMEA as they cross legal hurdles, but that's part of the Aug/Sept wave. This I heard discussed by a SVP in a public forum.
