Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

It won't be as bad as everyone’s expecting

If there’s one thing we do best, it’s working ourselves into a frenzy before we even know what’s really happening. That’s just human nature. But I honestly think this time it won’t be nearly as bad as we’re imagining. Dan doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who’d storm in with a hatchet and start swinging (or at least that’s what I’m choosing to believe until proven different).

@a2 Not laid off. Decided to take the VSP and run. Writing was on the wall. BTW, New job promoted, a lot more money and remote. If you are riff'd, it is a blessing.

There is a lot of fearmongering by people by barely any info - they feed off the responses. Take each and every post and response with a bucket of salt.

The senior people need to go first they are the ones making the silly decisions there are many layers of them. These are the decision makers that made the bad decisions. But will they? They have contracts can they be broken?

Dan has to try to salvage the ship with multiple holes in it. To an extend, it is the BOD's issue for NOT cutting the Meatball loose 3-4 years ago when the stock was tanking and our subscriber base was shrinking.
Now he's got to try to salvage the company, can it be done? Probably not in 2 years when his contract is up but the next guy might have a shot if some leakage is stopped.
JMO!

I wish you were right, but you aren’t. It’s going to be bad. 20% bad.

It’s going to be bad. 15-20% cut for all groups. He wants to use money for marketing as if they haven’t marketed enough. I’ve seen plenty of commercials and Verizon sponsoring big events. It’s not the marketing, it’s the price structure. But what do we know. He wants an aggressive cut and the push for AI will get more aggressive too

It heavily depends on the specific "channel" the observer is accustomed to. The challenge is that we have at least a two-week period to speculate on potential negative outcomes. Most of us probably know someone within our immediate team or an adjacent one who is underperforming. Occasionally, having personnel physically present on-site is necessary just to handle basic tasks like answering calls or managing access and so they get a pass time and time again.
Given the current challenging Company performance, the outlook is likely to remain difficult. As an organization we are being outperformed by all of the major competition, we can certainly be outperformed just the same with less people. We should consider the 4800 that were laid off earlier in the year. I think most of us just want it over with so we can pick up whatever pieces remain and move on.
