Protect your rights

File complaints with EEOC and state orgs.

I will be collecting issues on this board from those who are fearful. I'll also be creating an inbox to send reports.

Contact the media. The story of the event in Hawaii during this situation would be interesting copy.

  1. Document possible violations
  2. Come forward and be a witness for affected individuals. You could be next so do not 3) let fear get in the way. Retaliation is illegal.

Whistleblower laws are strong. Any violation of local, state or federal law or regulation should be reported. Do not limit yourself to employment matters.

Hey lawyer, go back to the ELT and tell them that intimidating people is just another violation added to the long list.

Cisco is better at this than you. Refuse the severance package at your own risk. There would be nothing worse than turning it down because you got sh---y advice on a website only to pay a lawyer for nothing.

Yes I'm a lawyer.

Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s illegal. Also good luck trying to prove age discrimination, maybe instead of spending time on a lawsuit you spend time trying to find another job. Just because Trump sues everyone that hurts his feelings doesn’t mean that strategy will work for you

Not at work over the weekend obviously. I have to get approvals.
I may just create a protonmail account and use that initially.

In the mean time just go and F Y!
This is not a place for your mind games. Nobody is sending emails unless the email belongs to the authority you pretend you are working for

" Of course Cisco discriminates. They use an army of lawyers to ensure they get away with it."

How many times have they had a extremely motivated member of a government enforcement agency involved?

Because that's what I am.

Yes, I will be handing it off to others because of my personal interest.

Good luck everyone. File those complaints. If not for yourself, for others.

At some point people need to stand up for what is right, not what is convenient.

How much aggravation do you want? Of course Cisco discriminates. They use an army of lawyers to ensure they get away with it.

Maximize your severance anyway you can and spend your effort finding the next gig. Cisco is an awful place to work. A year from now, after you are fully settled in your next job, you will look back and be pleased that you are out. It was a difficult choice for me to decide to leave on my own after many years at Cisco. Four of my teammates who stayed died within a year after I left. I believe work related stress had a large impact on their demise.

If you are over 40, you have a long time to decide to sign the severance agreement. Don't feel pressured. Even under 40, you must be given adequate time to seek counsel.

Under the federal Older Worker’s Benefit Protection Act, Congress sought to protect older workers who were being offered severance packages to leave their jobs. That law requires that older workers (those over age 40) be given at least 21 days to consider severance agreements, and then another 7 days to revoke them. In other words, they can change their minds.

When groups of older workers are terminated for the same reason (e.g., when they are all being laid off), those over age 40 need to be given 45 days to consider their severance packages. A “group” is two or more. These time frames should be used in any situation where severance is offered.

Over 40, you have 45 days. Plenty of time to take part in investigations and file complaints. Don't rush!
