Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Layoff reasons

Just got notification.
I asked my manager why I was selected and he couldn't tell me.
Do they need to give you are reason?
I was the only person in my group selected.
The project is a priority.
He told me I was a top performer.
My skill set directly aligns with the project.

Just doesn't add up.

people need to remember that age is a big factor in LR process. If you are over 50, you are on the top of the list. It doesn't matter that you are a top performer. Cisco is simply trying to bring down cost and try to maintain the same number of employees. Rememeber that you are being replaced by someone and your job is not eliminated.

@2igv+1k9UJmwa - oh honey, you wish. I got into another company and tripled my compensation in 3 years. But you keep doing the job I did for 1/3 of my current compensation.

if you are ethnic and a woman you must be really bad at your job to get LR, cause you just have to show up to be promoted or praised at all hands. Must be tough to have everything handed to you on a platter, pretty sure its not enough right? Dont worry, we will continue to do your job for you as usual, you can go back to walking in parks and doing gala events, we see your linkedin posts.

@vpl+1k9UJmwa and others posting that if you are a woman, minority, but not a white male you are safe - WRONG.

Women, minorities, LBGTQ are all being laid off. I am a woman and from a minority group myself and I was laid off years ago from Cisco.

The difference is that the women and minorities are few compared to the total in the first place - Cisco has always had around 24% of women as part of the total, and white male are the majority of the population. So it's a numbers game: of course you will see more white male being laid off when the total is made of most this cohort.

Entitlement won't help you find your next job either, so stop whining you are the victim of a big plot. Time to wake up!

It’s your manager who made the decision…it is popularity, not ranking…execs don’t get involved unless you have a “God Father”…they pass down LR count required….workman’s comp is a state issue - not available in NY due to high $$ payout - simply apply and see what happens…the package will include race/gender/age/etc breakdown as cya for law suits….life goes on, all will be good…

Honestly, this is where I'm at too. My org has been a mess for a while and I was almost welcoming getting the notice. Didn't get a meeting yesterday but without going into specifics there could still be a chance.

Hopefully, I will be severance eligible by the end of the week.

"Shared with my teams this morning that everyone was safe and 5 minutes later I get the dreaded invite from my manager"

What a lousy leader you are. If you don't know, just shut up. Lesson learned hopefully.

Your performance may have nothing to do with why you were chosen. Sometimes, it's X number of people must be cut from this product. Sometimes, it's age or salary related. I've seen older people laid off by Cisco then Cisco turns around an opens new hire reqs in the same group that they laid off in just recently. That is part of why Cisco gives a good severance payout, because they get you to agree to not sue them. It reduces court costs in the long run. I've been told that when I was laid off, my manager had no warning until just before he had to let me know and that my director had a very short notice as well.

Unemployment benefits for laid off depends on the state. Yes in CA.

I am a TSA and was let go. My direct manager didn’t give me any reason either. The decision was made several layers above him. I think this was purely a financial decision as the cuts made to my senior director’s teams was massive more than 50% of his 25+ reports including him. I had just received a nice raise and a large RSU grant so this was not based on performance.

Unless you are what? There’s ZERO, so no dice. How many are there company wide? How many has there been? Let’s see those statistics. This is a problem. A lot of talk and no action.

too many boomers at cisco, i don't like working here. hope they chop at least 60% of these old geezers. cisco should hire younger more energetic people then this place would be cool to work at. as you age, your brain power crawls to a halt. no innovation for the past 20 yrs. boomers must go or be pushed out by all means possible.

Sorry friend for what Cisco has done to you. I expect to have the same thing happen to me sooner or later. When it does I will book the next flight out of town and take a few days to relax in a unfamiliar environment. Maybe a visit to planet 13 in Vegas would be nice.

I was told that I was being laid off because I was too se-y for my clothes, too se-y for my hair, and finally, too se-y for my job. Fran tried to hit on me as well.

If you're a g12 white male you are done. Unless you are bl****g the local senior managers and directors. I've seen a couple women cut, mainly only in mass cullings. If you're women, minority, veteran/active duty, or LGBTQ or some other woke acronym you are good. If you are a poor performer, or perceived as having little value all bets are off. Most people at Cisco don't realize for every decent hard working person there is a back stabbing, sneaky, snake working to save their job when the next lay off hits. Facts.

By age 35, you should have few houses as a side income. By 40, your passive income should be >= freedom number ($monthly spending + its 25%). By 45, you should retire. Thanks to my manager.

You are eligible for unemployment if you take the layoff package. It will kick in after your last date that you are on the payroll.

If you are at the RTP campus, North Carolina is a right-to-work state. As such, Cisco can lay you off for no reason and you can quit anytime you like for no reason.

If you take the package, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits (I am pretty sure).

If you think you have been laid off for age-related reasons, contact the EEOC. The trick with the EEOC is to band together under "lay off for age discrimination." Your case is more likely to be prosecuted if there are many of you alledging the same thing.

Me too. I am the oldest (62 now) in the group. This could be an age discrimination.

They will repost your job in a few weeks at a temp agency without 401k, health insurance, and an hourly rate. The Director and VP receive bonuses while you apply for jobs.

Happy Holidays
