Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What is the median age of your team?

Is it just me or did the average age on teams went down from 30+ and 40+ to 20+? From what I can see, the majority of the teams now consist of a token old guy and a bunch of 20-somethings. Yes, there are some people in their 30s and 40s but they are a minority at this point.

@OP Nice, more ageism from the same people who constantly whine about ageism.

Here’s what most of you don’t get; nothing new has happened in O&G for about 20 years, and nothing new will ever happen. All the workforce does is maintain existing systems. That doesn’t require deep knowledge and years of experience. A kid in their 20s who’s good on a laptop will do just fine. Consultants can be brought in for specific expertise short-term, which is already happening anyway.

If I own a company, and ten employees who haven’t done much for the past decade and do less now draw an average salary of $220k/year, how much do I save by kicking them off the payroll and hiring four 20-something’s at less than half the pay to do the same work? The arithmetic is left as an exercise.

You’re either a capitalist or you’re not. You can’t have it both ways just because you don’t like the results.

The median at the plant technical and engineering departments has to be something like 24-27. No way it’s higher than that. If I had to put money on it I would shade my estimate closer to the 24 side.

Yes, lots of young folks and some taken late 40s. Experience base is low.
