Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Tempo

Ford has yet to make a car as great as the Tempo of the 1990’s. The seats were like sofas.

I'm assuming this post is an attempt at satire.

You sure?! Why

It was not comfortable at all.
Any Chrysler or Buick from that era had much better seats

For the price, the Tempo was ok. A simple vehicle to get from point A to B. Low cost commuter car. My Tempo served me well.
Now, I'll have to get a 30 year mortgage, just to get a commuter vehicle.

Tempo came out in 1984 or so, around the same time or slightly earlier than Taurus. It was likely designed around 1977-1983 so one would not expect state of the art for FWD at that time. We had Escort and prior to that Fiesta.
Taurus built on tempo and was one size up, and was a success.
Keep the time reference in mind when assessing these vehicles.
It served a purpose and had sales to support being built at two plants. Name any other sedan now for Ford that fills that bill.

I had one. It would get blown off the road in a stiff breeze. But even though it was that light it couldn't get out of its own way! And to be light and slow, it got shockingly horrible gas mileage! The styling was awful. The handling was worse. I'll admit that the seats were comfortable but that was back when the seats were made out of non-sustainable, not recyclable materials! Since Ford switched to all of this green material garbage their seats feel like sitting on little league baseball field bleachers!

Also, the AC was ICE COLD in that Tempo....also back when you could use real refrigerant! Thanks again greenies! You ruin everything.

Tempo/Topaz was part of what made Ford a Ford…bare bones, simple, affordable, transportation mass market high volume. They lost their touch…now they are solely a luxury automaker called Ford with a faux luxury brand called Lincoln. Before..Ford Motor Company with Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, and some Mazda mixed in….now…..Ford and Lincoln.

This Ford commercial says the Tempo / Topaz was the result of positive thinking.

The 2.3L I4 paired with the five-speed MTX-III manual was the way to go. I had a 1993. It was a marvel of simplicity and durability which made for fine basic transportation. It did have some wind noise and road noise and was a very basic car. No Takata airbags to take your head off either. It had a clumsy automatic electrically-actuated shoulder belt in lieu of air bags.

This is a troll.

The Tempo sucked.

Note that I used past tense because all Tempos are gone.
