Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Good luck to all tomorrow, Jan 9th

From what I have heard, it’s going to be a bad day for a lot of people. Whatever your desired outcome is, good luck.

@2wvv

No one that I know was effected (and WTH does that even mean?), but I do know plenty of people who were affected, in effect, by the layoffs. .

I hope that anyone who was “effected” chooses a good résumé writer.

There was a 1 year moratorium on layoffs during covid. That's it. They have a set process, layoffs happen every quarter, if no one you know was effected it doesn't mean they didn't happen, there are many people who have been riffed. I heard this month they were happening on the 17th.

Some of you are so out of the loop. Lack of layoffs for 3 years? Seriously? They’ve been letting people go like they do every year after every review. They don’t know how to budget and don’t bring in new customers or products so they cut the wrong people to save money. It’s been happening every year but like first year wfh thanks to covid

If this was a big layoff then life is good. one thing about Charlie… there was zero time to agonize. It was fast & furious with coworkers walked out and whoa what happened. It could be more like slow rolling thunder but it seems to be a very tentative start. Perhaps the lack of layoffs for the past 3 and a half years has gotten HR out of practice.

From what I have been told the financials and projections for Data and Analytics are horrendous. The goal is to eliminate 20% of staff in that department during several waves in 2023 starting next week.

Seemed to be a fairly light layoff day. Been 4 years so maybe HR got a little rusty on the layoff playbook.

Scharf wasn't at BNYM in 2008, that was Bob Kelly. And after Bob, it was Gerald Hassell, then it was good ol Chuck. Like 5+ years later.

Someday the layoff rumors will be true again but they haven’t been since Scharf’s August 2008 massacre. It’s like a stopped calendar that’s right every four years. Wish that only those in the know would make these guesses but obviously that hasn’t happened.

I thought it wasn’t until MLK week? In any event, it will be a blood bath- worst one in eons.

I certainly hope it is me that gets laid off. I've put in plenty of years and it's time to leave this place. BNY's bad third quarter has to become a bad fourth quarter. That will definitely translate to little or no raises and bonuses this year. Why would I want to stay? It would be better to just take my year severance and enjoy myself for a while before finding a better job.

I ask people in BNY to please report into this site tomorrow so that others can be kept aware of what is happening. Thanks.
