Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Are senior managers ever held accountable?

I left last month, spooked that I would eventually be next on the layoff list because my group had a disproportionate number of people let go compared to the whole department. Since then, I have heard things have gone more downhill and more people are looking to get out. It's only a matter of time until they find something else. But when the dust settles, almost 40% of the people would have left the group. My senior management must've saved some money but at the same time, so many people leaving in a short time period for better opportunities has to be a bad look. Have you guys seen any situations in which teams cut off too much of their staffing and managers faced consequences for it? Or do they have too much pride to admit they made a big mistake?

No, they aren't held accountable, if they are, it's behind closed doors. Best you can do is move on and don't look back at this sad place. If you do have good connections, you may be able to convince the remaining teammates you had good relationships with to find other jobs. I left last year and I heard things got terrible once I left, but I was able to get some of my team some interviews for positions outside BNYM.

We're supposed to get a massive layoff this week and while I know many of you are wanting it to be you and that's fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if more people leave on their own soon after. I bet those who leave will find something better at the rate BNYM can replace Reqs.

It’s always so sad to read these racist and culturally insulting opinions from these unknown coworkers. It seems that we all respect one another at work and collaborate so well.

Then we come here to find out about layoffs, 401K changes, benefits cuts etc., and what do find? That we work with racists & anti-semites. It’s hard to believe.

I've seen the same in my office. I wonder too at the time when management becomes accountable for breaking a perfectly fine business. Once you get a client in the door, You print money for years on end from 20-40% Margin. Its not se-y ... but the bank makes money. The bank keeps trying to squeeze out more margin but just fails and fails with grand ideas on useless tools. The people who lead these projects are overstretched. The projects are done off the back of operations.. lose / lose. Management has to be held accountable.

A lot of these jobs are going to the pathetic people overseas who, while cheaper (hint hint), are so incompetent and you can barely understand them. Oops- have to be PC- aren’t they wonderful??????

The next level of management has to pick up the slack until it is too much and they end up as partially met or does not meet and they too are sitting in the unemployment office.
