Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Rewards

I get it that lot of folks are losing their jobs. But man, it sucks to not have raises in Q1. It seems that all the work last year was waste. Struggling to find motivation in new year.

Been there (2008), done that, got the T-Shirt. Get a side Gig, you will thank me later.
Hope is not a strategy.

With the stock market down, all FANG companies' compensation are down since a large part of their TC is in stocks.

You are a trouble maker that spends more time whining then working. You definitely think more highly of yourself then you merit. It won't be long before your new boss figures it out and he fires you.

...actually, I wasn't in the unemployment line very long because one of Intel's major competitors offered a better position. And FWIW, my worth, or opinion thereof, had nothing to do with my departure. I also was anything but lazy. It was because I was constantly calling out the poor decisions managers in my org were constantly making. In other words, the squeaky wheel got replaced.

But if it makes you feel better about yourself, feel free to generalize about others on this site who you know absolutely nothing about. It's anonymous after all, and you know what they say about opinions.

... or maybe you had a fat cushy job and you got lazy and didn't keep your skills up and got fired. In any case, you have to admit you are a biased opinion of your own worth and we certainly need to discount what you say as it's pretty clear your manager had a completely different view on what you are worth.

@1pdq, I worked really hard for Intel too and after 20-years of loyalty and dedication my final reward was the unemployment line.

I left and doubled salary - only downside is I have to work a full day! Bills paid though…

A lot of comments here dont feel the pain, because their didnt work hard enough for their money. And this is the lack of dedication due to which Intel is where it is today. Just slackers. Work hard and expect better from your company.

@ckq : There are a few slackers who work <2Hrd per day. But not everyone. A lot of people put their hearts into their work. Work solid 9-10 hours a day.

Nobody is forcing you to stay. If you think you are underpaid, interview outside and see if you can get a better deal. Just remember you don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. A lot of people who quit in 2020 - 21 during the "great resignation" are now laid off by their employers. I know at least 1 person that this happened to in Facebook/ Meta.

@jlh+1kEt4HTO Is that why one of the first actions Pat took was giving SW/AI/HW engineers raises to stop company bleeding talent? It took us a bit closer to average, but with limited budgets last year and delayed Rewards now with high inflation we are slipping behind again.

@Op, 'It seems that all the work last year was waste.'

This sounds like an entitled, sniveling child. Have you ever known a real hardship in your life? Suck it up cupcake. Go make your bed, clean your room and be happy that your employer is able to pay you 3 times what the median income for the country is.

Quit, simple as that. Intel pays pretty good money. In fact, if they wanted to level the field with other big companies and pay the same benefits as they do (e.g. HP, IBM, etc.) we wouldn't have any merit increase for at least 5 years.
I make $160 at Intel, but outside I would be making no more than $130 if lucky, or $105 if working at an average company.
Stop complaining and quit if you're uncomfortable.

That sucks 0% on a sinking ship!

Better to quit or get laid off and get a new job at a far better company

why are you complaining? Everybody at intel works < 2 hours/day. Few only 1 hr/day. Try to find side gig and improve your TC. I am making more money doing side gig.
