Does anyone know how candidates for layoff are determined? Is by timesheets? Salary?

It depends upon the team. Smaller teams talent matters, larger teams the social pecking order is important. HR problems, people who forget to enter their time sheet or need to be reminded to complete VZ Learn required courses are low hanging fruit.

Typically, ranking of team is provided to directors and above. They look at who is over 45 and then factor that into the percentage at the bottom that get cut. Best advice is to download a copy of severance plan, update LinkedIn, and be ready.

Longer tenured might be the preference, but they have to balance that with shorter tenured employees. They do not want to get sued for age discrimiation.

Verizon tends to prioritize longer-tenured employees with beefed up comp plans. Middle management will be drastically reduced this year. Too many managers at big V.
