How good is the compensation change from senior to Lead engineer? Can you tell from the year end review if promotion is about to happen?what difference is there b/n exceed and meet ?

If you are getting promoted you will be advised either during your evaluation meeting with your manager or when they discuss compensation.
Depends on your current package as senior engineer. My pay was in the starting range of senior engineer. After promotion, I am getting paid in the starting range of lead engineer. About 15% more
