If someone was so inclined, is there any reason a retiree couldn't hire back into Ford as a "new hire" via applying for a job on Ford Careers website?

Why would Ford want someone that crazy? Find something else to do.
I think we have enough old people who don't do what they're supposed to. No need for more.
Same here, except nowadays it won't take 30 years for the LLs to start tormenting you. Maybe a few years at most. You will be doing many many degrading acts to keep your job at Ford.
I retired from Ford after 30 years. I started as an FCG. Towards the end of my tenure, I was treated in a progressively more savage manner by management and forced to perform many degrading acts at the hands of my LL tormenters.

The IRS will allow Companies to rehire retirees full time but it does cause internal issues for Ford so as a best practice, it is not done. Retirees can comeback as supplemental after a 30 day waiting period. Retirees can also return as agency.
For anyone who took a severance package (voluntary or involuntary), if your buyout agreement contained language stating you cannot come back as a direct Ford or agency, then you are never supposed to return.
Of course, there are always exceptions. I do know of 1 person who were separated during the Great Recession and came back as a direct hire and 2 that came back as agency. I am not aware of anyone who retired and came back as a direct hire in a non-supplemental capacity.

I took a package and retired in October 2021. Part of the deal was that I could not come back as an employee or agency..... and that was A-O-K with me. I have heard of isolated incidents where an LL4's approval overrode this policy, but its a moot point for me. I would not come back under any circumstance.

Boredom with retiree life style, failure to adequately estimate actual costs in retirement, etc. Could be many reasons, though if I really wanted to go back to the daily grind it sure wouldn't be on the SS Fomoco as it slowly sinks under the waves.
Due to the agreements signed, whether SIRP or retiree, it requires VP approval to rehire.
Why does anyone want to comeback?
@OP. I know some ex employees come back as Agency, and not that many. I believe there is a clause of not coming back to the company in the "farewell" paperwork. It is related to legal aspects, retirement contributions/withdrawals, and other challenges. Although in 2021 the IRS simplified some rules to rehire retirees, most companies don't want to deal with the headaches caused by this.
For the laid off employees, FMC should give employees the chance to relocate inside the company, or improve their performance, or overcome whatever the reason for dismissal. If you are hired back as employee, it means FMC made a mistake in your case, and it is open to a lawsuit. That's why ex employees only come back as Agency.

Regardless of SIRP status, if a manager LL5 or above wants to bring you back, they can. So you better have someone willing to advocate on the inside.
Other than my manager told me could not work for Ford directly or indirectly if I accepted the SIRP. The SIRP documentation also echos this edict.
They treat the interns & FCGs much better than regular employees. Has anyone ever heard of a intern with gray hair?
