Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Not doing connect weeks

Does anyone know someone or heard of someone who has actually been disciplined/fired for not coming in on connect weeks? Does your manager even get an email?

It’s funny to me that just now they are all admitting it’s about real estate and. It collaborating. Wow, thanks, we saw that a long time ago.

Fidelity just wants people to come back in to justify their investment in real estate.
Those that want/need to come in just need the social interaction to make their lonely miserable lives a little bit happier.
Let’s face it, those few that actual do work, will do so no matter the location, so why not let them decide for themselves. This is typically true as they get exceptions.
Peace & Love to all you haters.

It’s taken this long? Guess I could have stayed home the entire time. Seems management isn’t coming as much anymore.

If you do not show up to any connect weeks, your manager will be made aware. If you refuse, you'll be on the path towards being let go.

I have heard from numerous people that they are currently going through and reviewing employees who have not come in so far.

Also for the comments below..I didn’t get participation trophies, I got real ones.

Go back full time? Many groups weren’t anywhere near that before the pandemic. What do you care? No friends? No family?

What a bunch of whine bags. Get your lazy butts back into the office. Full time

When you keep reverting to simple points like "get off your lazy butts", "you were hired to go in to the office", "you are entitled because of past participation trophies", you do not make a compelling argument or one with logic, either. You are talking purely from an emotional stance. Others have brought up very valid reasons that productivity may be negatively affected, with personal examples. This applies to individuals who stay and also on a company-wide scale, in terms of talented individuals who decide to leave. The conversation really should come down to what works best for the situation, accounting for all parties, which should also be obvious for anyone. If employees are placing greater emphasis on personal time, why restrict that for a reduction in productivity? Is this because you want to prove "all of you are entitled"? Because that is a bad reason.

Aren’t you supposed to be busy doing something? Commuting or yelling at kids to get off your lawn?

ya, they're tyrants for making you do what you were hired to do, come to the office and do your job. This is what happens when everyone gets a trophy when they are a kid, they grow up to be entitled adults that need things to go their way or they whine and cry. This is a pathetic, entitled generation. Maybe someday you will grow up.

The Covid thing happens so much. Happened to me and I got very unrealistic expectations put on me, do not more testing I guess. It’ll just make people want to lie about test results if we are punished for Covid.

It’s nice some people have bosses who aren’t taking much action. Instead of being tyrants.

many people I know who went in their last connect week ended up with covid and then had to take time off being sick. I don't know how this is helping increase productivity.

Also - calling people woke for not spending hours commuting is lame. What's the right way? You know that all this commuting and office culture is a small blip in humanity's existence, right?

It would be so much better to let the teams decide their face-2-face time. Like adults. Going in the office to check the box is not helping anything. I'd like to go in during the planning phase of a project to whiteboard stuff. Instead my time is often during the week when we are hitting production install/deadline and would be better off attending to it remotely. Given that the team is spread across 4 geographies any way.

Most of the people who code or have done it in the past and now manage teams, are happier with remote. It's the water cooler talkers and fad chasers that miss seeing their minions.

Managers with major outliers were required to attend meetings to discuss last week. Major outliers would be anyone who hasn't badged in since June or July. From my understanding they don't track time stamps but they are really cracking down on people totally disregarding connect weeks. The goal isn't to trip anyone up who has a legitimate reason (like being on vacation or are sick that week) but at this point if you haven't badged in six months that's beyond legitimate.

I wonder if they are looking at people who log in at 10:30 am but the person still puts in 40 plus hours a week. Some roles require you to be up for a late tech install and various other reasons. I think if they are looking at a late log ins they really should be looking at total hours worked in a week.

People here keep saying march. It won’t be March, it would be April.

They are definitely monitoring who has checked into their physical buildings and also when you log in at home. There are many people who don’t log in until 10:30 in the morning and not at all on Mondays and Fridays. Rumor is that we will have two mandatory in person weeks possibly starting in March.

To the person who is calling people lazy, you’re a common fool. I’ll see you at the next town hall and watch you stuff your face with garbage food and sell your soul.

True, I know numerous people who moved far away and never had to come back and one who moved across the country after dynamic working started who never goes in. And people who live far enough for the drive to be annoying who come up with “exceptions”.

It’s interesting to me that they could treat employees differently and not have discriminatory legal issues. Some employees are allowed to work wherever they want and are considered remote employees and some may be reprimanded (though we haven’t seen that yet) for doing the same exact thing as those remote employees. I’m sure they have thought this through but it feels like it could have some legal red flags. I follow rules and am going in but interested in watching this play out.

Throw out January due to it being a heavy vacation month, then throw out school vacation weeks. We'll likely start hearing about confrontations over missed connect weeks in March.

I don’t know if anyone who has done this. My department treats us like we are 5 years old, though. You would get belittled and berated right upon stating a concern. It doesn’t get this far.

yes, they are taking it very seriously. They are ramping up on resumes to replace folks that aren't willing to come in with people that are willing to go to the office. Trying to get back to the pre-pandemic atmosphere. Pretty easy to replace the woke that are still wet behind the ears with new talent ready to do things the right way. They feel the experiment failed.
