I was on the receiving end of a BNYMellon group layoff a few years ago. 100+ people laid off. If memory serves, only 2 of them were under the age of 50 - not necessarily age discrimination, but discriminatory by the associated higher salaries that come after working somewhere for so many years. People please remember that it is not personal. Also please remember that there are many other companies out there and you will not have to look very far to find one that does not have a toxic work environment. I found a great new company to work for in less than 1 month and I willingly gave up 11 months of SUB payments to go to work there. Trust me that you will all be fine and happier for it.

Also lost my position a few years back, it took me a year to find a new role, the one thing I don’t miss is the toxicity of the old place, the sour looks on peoples faces as they trudged into the main office in the morning as if they were reporting to prison and inept management from the 10th floor on down.
The new company treats people with respect and if they do lay people off they don’t create an anxious filled atmosphere nor do they say you are to blame. Instead the manager takes accountability for the event and actually wish you well in your next endeavor. You won’t see that at the boneyard. It’s a shame bony can’t maintain an environment of respect on a daily basis.
Would you all like to know what the most wonderful thing that I first noticed when I started at my new company and still notice to this day, nearly 4 years later? I go into the coffee room, get on elevators, and go to the cafeteria and I do not hear even 1 person complain about the company (not 1!). I could not get through a single day at BNYMellon without hearing 5-10 people or more complain. That alone should make it very clear how much better it can actually be!
