Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Good luck today / this week

Good luck everyone. This company can be pretty heartless. How do you layoff when you’re short staffed and can’t fill reqs as it is? some people won’t deserve it and others absolutely will and they'll take it as opportunity to let you go finally after HR makes it impossible. Having to start from the bottom somewhere sucks and companies claiming they can’t fill reqs either are being very picky for some reason. Good luck to finding something quickly if you choose too

@tda+1kJtS4vk - you’re absolutely right for this round. This round was financially driven. Department heads are given a target number to meet and it’s up to them to decide. If it trickles down to lower level employees=higher number of people let go. If they cut senior staff who earn more, fewer people need let go.

When the order is given by the stuffed suits at the top of the pyramid to managers to reduce staffing, my bet is they are given a percentage figure they must eliminate from their current total salary budget. Then most likely it's their discretion to pick the employees whose salaries equal that amount and give them pink slips. In an ideal situation, you'd hope the managers would choose wisely and retain those employees who have the most experience or produce the best results. But I'm sure a lot of favorites who just happen to be buddies with the managers will be spared the ax at the expense of others who've actually earned their paychecks.
