Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Is it possible to negotiate a severance package?

I'm asking about those of us who've been here for over a decade at least. I know in some other companies it is possible, but I've never heard of anything similar being done at Wells Fargo. I know the company has no incentive to do that, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

@1ghk+1kJzZsYR The opposite is actually true. When everyone can ask they have to make their selection criteria transparent. A friend worked at a large FS company years ago who put out volunteer option. Literally almost everyone did and they had to basically say “psyche”!

Trust me, they are very aware of how needing 9k people but allowing any to volunteer would double or triple their target. Can’t have that big of a resource (people and severance) outflow. If they were smart they would make the volunteer package smaller, say 1 week for each year instead of 2, and they’d probably still get their number.

I tried to negotiate a severance/separation because I was in a good financial place to do so. So many of my friends were getting laid off and I was tired of working at Wells for literal decades (Tech).
They wouldn’t let me so I aligned myself to an area that was going to get hit and got laid off (and got my package). It would have been easier on everyone to let me go when I asked. Yes I am just over 50.

Negotiated severance: I imagine if you are over 50 and been with the firm for a couple years and your severance would be 4 weeks. In that instance you would probably get somewhere with threatening to sue, but that’s about all your leverage.

Offering a voluntary severance would be a double-win for WF.

They'd be able to get rid of people who DON'T want to be here. And they wouldn't risk laying off people who DO want to be here.

Why don't they do that?

Two potatoes or no potato. That's it

I am looking at this question as: negotiate (volunteer) to be laid off... (not negotiate terms).

No. Don't even mention you are interested in a severance package. Once they catch wind of that, they will just wait for you to quit/retire. I have seen it happen repeatedly.

What was the question exactly? Negotiate the terms of the severance? Or negotiate (volunteer) to be laid off?

Only the overpaid useless execs get such a privilege. They get a golden parachute upon being hired and then pad it throughout the tenure before using it to bail. The BOD even signs off on all this.

Packages are set in stone....just like you cannot "negotiate" your way out of being laid off.
If you find out differently, let us know!

Sure. Two months (60 days) non working notice and then two weeks for every year employed with Wells Fargo. Your welcome.🤷🏻

You don't get if you don't ask. That said, I'm guessing the EVP level and above may have some latitude but 99% get the "take it or leave it" lollipop.
