Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I am angry and frustrated

Honestly, I did not think that I would be laid off after more than a decade of hard work, excellent performance and several promotions (fully deserved in my opinion). I am more angry about the very irrational and unfair targeting of employees than I am worried about looking for a new job. I previously refused several offers which were excellent, but I chose to stay at BNYM. What a mistake that was!
If you think that you weren't laid off because of your performance, that is, you had a good performance so far, what do you think is the reason why you were targeted?

It’s actually ok to come out and name them as the problem demographics are on every HR dartboard in the U.S.A. The unquestioned Holy Causes for displacements are educated old, white, experienced, straight males.

Plus they keep trying to re-educate these knuckle draggers but they cannot seem to adapt and learn and still stubbornly remain educated old, white, experienced straight males.

The hiring goals of course are the reverse although 46 newly discovered s-xes are being reviewed by legal so stay tuned.

Leaving an honest review of BNY Mellon on Glassdoor & Indeed is a great way to warn people not to apply. Sorry but that’s my opinion after 10 years in Oriskany.

Replying to the “4th for a bonus”. That wasn’t part of the layoffs, but it was absolutely criteria from promotions this past year

#1 - Most likely senior management never knew people working for them
#2 - They are talking about more college recruiting all of a sudden
#3 - India wasn't impacted by layoffs
#4 - Too early to tell but being in protected group never hurts

Please leave a company review on Glassdoor - it's anonymous. More people should know about the handling of layoffs.

@uop+,
I hear ya. My boss was fired back in 2019 when they targeted "middle management" even though he only had a dozen people reporting to him. He was very talented and did as much work as any of up PLUS all the HR stuff. Not to mention quite a bit of long-term planning. He left me alone but never hesitated to help if I needed him.

One of our managers is gone, and for no reason that anyone can figure out. I think someone way high up looked at the org chart, and thought "Oh, we have two managers at this level in this group. Let's get rid of one of them."

That manager did all the budget work for our group, plus a lot of other tasks. It certainly leaves a big ho-e to fill. We know it's not about performance, just luck of the draw.

The good news is that every capable person laid off in the past few years has moved on to a better-paid position at another company, and are happy to be gone. Enjoy the break, and look forward to a better and brighter future.

Most likely one of three reasons:

  1. You offended some poor little snowflake in management
  2. You cost too much so they want to replace you with a gen z kid making 1/3?of what you make.
  3. You cost too much so they want to replace you with someone overseas making 1/50 of what you make.

I’ll throw in a 4th for a bonus:

  1. Wrong skin color, age, gender, se-ual orientation (straight)
