Meets

Can you get promotion based on years review as meets? Or must Exceeds or above? My manager said she has not seen any exceeds for many years.

I just received a promotion with a meets rating; however, I have not had the compensation discussion with my manger yet (that will occur end of January). I'll be in the same role just one level higher. I am not expecting much as far as compensation goes. I have a figure in mind and if does not meet my expectations then I am seriously considering leaving WF after 7 years of tenure to pursue other opportunities. The only real way to continue to increase your income is by switching companies because loyalty doesn't seem to get you anywhere.

What is the promotion raise this year to one level up? They submitted just waiting for approval and release next week.

Yes, you can. Exceeds was so limited this year. I'm seeing a rate of about 5%. But you're better off changing departments for 15% or companies for 25%

I am older but i can tell you that when my career was starting 5 -8 percent increases were never going to keep me up to market. I changed jobs and industries throughout my career. People always want fresh blood from talented people in large companies. One jump was 30k but it was a manager position but small company and had a huge staff of 2 but the bottom line you control your career and income. However, if you think being loyal to a company will pay off that works too. I personally was always looking to learn new skills work with new people and new products. I only did it every 5 years a couple were less than 5 but i was relocating. Now everyone else can get bugged up on ratings with WF i don’t. There is a great life outside of WF. Take the initiative. Oh and if you are guessing if you will get a promotion….you probably won’t. However, having another job in hand and letting them counter may speak volumes on where you would be headed if you stay

Seems like it depends on the area, in Credit Risk no you cannot get promoted with a meets. If you get a consistently exceeds it pretty much guarantees a promotion. I've seen people with exceeds get it as well.
Given that 20%* of people will get above a meets it doesn't really speak highly of promoting someone that only gets a meets.

I’ve been exceeds every year that I’ve been here, including when Charlie changed the ratings calibration. Yes, there’s fewer out there, but there are exceeds in the bank. Your manager is wrong.

Or exceeds is used to protect someone on the chopping block.

Yes but if your manager is smart they will save the exceeds for when you are due for a promotion. Helps grease the wheels.

It is not what your review states. It is whether or not HR approved a requisition for a higher level then where you are at because they cannot replace your current position unless they can backfill or do you think that exceeding expectations in your current job “means that year you did great” so you should get a promotion. Seldom to you get what you think you deserve. Take action and find the job that pays you otherwise you get good raises by doing the Same work you are doing just get a promotion doing it. Maybe you really don’t qualify for the new role (work experience, skill set, training, education) so you are just doing a really good job with exceeds or meets. You are a profession so the bar is higher.

I have found it is much easier to post out for a promotion. Internal promotions unless you are lower level why should they bother. They already have your skills on the team and works better for them to stay put. Plus just because you exceed doesn’t mean there is a promotion seat available. I see outside coming in and few internal bumps except maybe non exempt to exempt or leave and return or just post for the better position. Your more experienced skill set may be more valuable elsewhere. i get promotions because i post out to other teams. Good for me good for them to bring in fresh blood and ideas. Sitting back expecting is inaction.

The only relevant question is, do you have the proper connections to warrant a promotion?

consistently exceeds may warrant a promotion

If the manager likes you and/or wants to promote you, the review will come in at whatever level is needed to make that happen, whether that be meets of something else in your area of the company. I was demoted during a move the lines activity after prior year was exceeds with highest-level bonus. The very next review, I was suddenly Inconsistently meets - same manager, so can could only assume the fall in assessment was largely to justify the demotion and accompanying loss in bonus.

Your manager is a liar or has really poor performers.

Meets is the new exceeds, so it should be feasible.
