Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Terrible approach to layoffs

If the leadership thinks that cuts are inevitable, is it at least possible to ensure that layoffs are managed a little better so that people who were loyal would not leave with a bitter taste in their mouth and regret that they made any effort here at all? In my opinion, these are the worst managed layoffs so far.

Actually no. They don’t go through these layoffs every year. It’s been 4 1/2 years since the last layoff in August 2018.

Layoffs are horrible. Making up constant layoffs to stress people out needlessly is a horribly sick hobby.

How is it a “Ponzi Scheme?”

Do you actually not know what a “Ponzi Scheme is? Just ask.

Allow me to guess… University of Phoenix Associates Graduate?

I call B.S. none of our last 5 leaders personally faced layoffs except for Bob Kelly, which was essentially for cause.

While it’s really bad working here honestly your post isn’t correct. There haven’t been any of the typical large layoffs since Schardt in August 2018. Obviously they’re working up to that again but let’s not cry wolf needlessly. January didn’t measure up to the hype so let’s all relax.

Could you explain what you mean? What here is a Ponzi scheme and what is your point? Just trying to make sense of your post.

“Any comments now about the massively down-voted TG appreciation posts from the last few weeks?”

My only comment is that the fools who downvoted Todd’s thoughtful and steady hand over 2 1/2 layoff free years were ignoramuses. They’re so clueless that they’re lining up behind and sucking up to R.V.

They’ll learn, oh yes they’ll learn.

I think the point of the approach is to keep people in fear and working harder. I feel like its viewed as motivational, in a sick way. Ironically, performance has little to do with who they select.

When Musk was laying off Twitter Employees this what ex CEO Doresey had to say , "Twitter staff are strong and resilient. They will always find a way no matter how difficult the moment. I realise many are angry with me. I own the responsibility for why everyone is in this situation: I grew the company size too quickly. I apologise for that."

We won't receive any such statements from our Tractor Boy 🚜 as he is busy farming.

It would be nice to hear the news from executive leadership (email, webcast, something) and not have to read about it in the press.

True leaders would not run and hide. They would face the staff head on, explain it is painful but necessary, and be transparent. The end result would be the same, but feel less “slimy”.

Looking back over our last 5 leaders, it is the ones that have personally faced layoffs and firings that in turn do the same to employees.

Any comments now about the massively down-voted TG appreciation posts from the last few weeks?

Watch the movie Up In the Air and see how layoffs are done properly. While there is no good way of telling someone they no longer have a job, at least it can be done in an organized and professional manner. BNY is a quasi-government agency dumpster fire.

BNY Mellon is notorious about their layoffs. Every year this is what they go through for no rhyme or reason.

The primary reason is utter mismanagement of how they go about their strategy and workforce management. They are just not professional enough to manage a bank.

Please leave a company review on Glassdoor - it's anonymous. More people should know about the handling of layoffs.

It’s a Ponzi scheme simple as that. People who spent 8 hours a day on calls discussing how it should work ???? Who makes it work

Makes me feel sick to be part of this company… And the senior managers holding meetings today and the way they acted was sickening…

This is without a doubt the most sickening thing I’ve ever seen go down. I have a horrible feeling in my stomach. And i don’t even feel safe for the next year here.
