Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

A clear indication of the toxic atmosphere

I think there is no clearer indicator of an unhealthy atmosphere and low morale in a workplace than when those who have been laid off say that they are happy that they are finally out of this place.

It really seems that there are more people who look at layoffs as a kind of relief, than those who despair at possibility of being laid off?

The bank has done a lot to make a good atmosphere the past couple of years. It's not toxic. I am not happy to leave. I liked what I was doing, my team, and the people I worked with. But layoffs happen and they give you a generous package. I look at it as time to figure out what I want to do next. There are lots of great opportunities out there if you have kept your skills up to date. If you havent, or you just want to beef up your existing skills, check out Coursera. Lots of certificates you can obtain in just a day or two. Best of luck to BNY and those laid off!!

For those of you laid off, they aren’t going to ask for you back. There’s a reason they picked you. Think about it. If you were useful why wouldn’t they put you in another open req within the bank ? Would make sense right? But they don’t want you employed there.

@nbsg - the writing was on the wall back in 2019, did you actually think the company would show you loyalty?

While the above may sound poorly to you, hopefully you can take your 50 weeks to find a better suited opportunity elsewhere even if it is in a different field. Use the outplacement services, take all of the courses they offer, participate in networking, get on LinkedIn if you are not already on it.

Four years ago I was part of the “unlucky” bunch who were given false reviews after years of high performance. It took a while to find a new job elsewhere but the one thing I miss is the horrible atmosphere. There is life outside of BNY where professionalism reigns supreme and you are treated with dignity.

Even if rough waters hit and they inevitably do, there is no rumor mongering creating this psychological torture chamber on a daily basis like the boneyard. You’d think someone in psychop’s was running management the way they allow these leaks to occur.

If management can’t fix their problems how do you expect them to fix the issues surrounding the whole company? Clean house from the executive floors and 5 levels down and build anew. The idea of cutting J/K/L/M grades is laughable - that’s not management any more than the cashier who takes your order at Starbucks is.

For some yes. Personally I am devastated after a quarter of a century I now have to find a new job. I'm angry. 8 more yrs is all I need to work.

True that.. If they come back and say, 'sorry we made a mistake in the paperwork, we would like to hire you back' .. my response would be .. 'sorry, deal is a deal' ..
