Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Perfect time for VZ to announce mass layoffs.

Recent layoff announcements:
Amazon - 18,000
Microsoft - 10,000
Google - 12,000

A large number announced by VZ would simply blend in with the other recent annoncements. Waiting 6 months when no other announcements of similar/larger size exists would be a standalone story.

Stop looking to these posts for your answers. Verizon is NOT the great provider. YOU ARE!! Don't wait for them to ruin your life with a layoff. If you feel your work can serve you & your family better somewhere else then LEAVE!!

This post is ridiculous. Craig S is in the process of assessing our global support, services and real estate. He has a target $ for cost reduction. It will probably be April - same every year.

Vz has had routine layoffs since around 2006. I have never seen it on the news whether there were other major layoffs being announced or not. Don’t know what their secret is, maybe they present it as acceptance of volunteers to leave or what but they pretty much avoid the press on this topic.

Imagine begging employees to perform at a exhausting level and care about generating additional revenue for a company that doesn't care about them. This is Hans. Even if he had the perfect strategy to bring the company back to greatness, no one will follow him since he and the other Verizon elites are seen as absolute garbage leaders.

Why do they pretend we have the greatest network? That customers are willing to pay more for our services? That our customer base doesn't care that their service calls are outsourced? That indirect locations know anything or care about the end result?

@mug+1kM5GqG2- yeah that's it. Lets take advantage of employees by not offering raises in an already unaffordable economy but also DECREASING their already low wages. That will be sure to boost productivity. You are talking out of your azz. What good is keeping a job that doesn't want to pay you enough to live!?!?!

Verizon is always having layoffs, but some states, or at least NJ, changed the layoff notification and severance requirements, which take effect in March or April. That could trigger a Q1 layoff to preempt the additional requirements.

It's scary because this time layoffs and new hiring will be like musical chairs. There will be less seats than when it starts. And if you're an older professional, you probably can't go back to an entry level job that requires your coding or math skills. And if you're a manager, you're next job could be a step backwards. You could become a perpetual contractor until companies start growing again, which could be never.

I think companies could offer 5 years guaranteed employment in exchange for no raises during that time or maybe even a pay decrease and could retain and assure employees while saving 5%+ in employee costs and boosting productivity.
