Wasn't laid off, but I recently took a second job on weekends to help pay down some debt . I'll probably only do this for about a year or so, but suppose I get laid off from this BNYM job? Won't they stop my sub payments?

I believe that I nailed it perfectly. Don’t game the system, be an honest man.
@4jxa omg what he-l is wrong with you -sicko comment
wasnt even let go, it was just a hypothetical example
you sound like a c**t am i right
So what you’re saying is that your friend who owns a pizza shop is going to allow you to work off the books to keep his payroll taxes down. And you’ll have tax free earnings.
What a wonderful group of employees we have. Wouldn’t it be cool if they used some of those sharp noggins at work here? Might have been a promotion instead of a displacement.
@3acv, point out where I'm wrong.
It's 100% accurate that you can work some and still collect unemployment.
And it's 100% accurate the BK said NEW employment.
Just stop already. Harming the stupid for the sport of it is disgusting…
Read your package info. You have to certify each week you are not working. Even a part time job for a small paycheck will disqualify you from your benefits and they may even claw back what they paid you. Not worth the gamble. Don't believe me? Send an email to inquire about this.
You likely qualify for unemployment if you have two jobs and lose one or even if your hours are cut way back. If you qualify for UE, then you're qualify for sub pay. If you have NEW employment, you should report it and will no longer be entitled sub pay.
Well there are always exceptions for the well connected. Banking is sickening as an unconnected worker.
All of these extra money making ideas are excellent solutions towards eliminating any and all hassles with the onerous SUB and unemployment requirements.
I was referring to a part-time weekend job (making Pizza for example),that one may do currently that is not replacing your full time job in any regard. That should no way impact sub pay and should not be of the firms business. ... was not referring to a new job at another company of equal value.
Am I the only one that read the OP’s username before responding?
We all have some people like this in our lives. Only wish that they could see outside of themselves.
I tend to think of those who attempt to game the system with a second job as a form of the Darwin Principle. It’s a tax on stupidity and hopefully they’ can learn from it for the future.
On the other hand there are people who are devilishly good at finding holes in the system and getting over.
This really does say it all about the character of the employees that we hire, doesn’t it?
Ha ha… just remembered that that they actually also complained about the cost of electricity & utilities for WFH during the entire COVID era. As if people shut off their utilities for the day when they commute.
It’s really easy to lose your package by not following the simple rules. You can’t work but you can look for work.
Why not start self assess your goals and begin an unhurried job search while you relax. Be thrifty and stash some cash away and pay down some debt. According to the millennials RTO alone costs $3000 a year…. Remember those assertions? :-)
It’s a great opportunity for some inner peace and reflection.
A second job can affect your unemployment benefits
how would they know if you dont tell them ??
Don’t listen to these internet randos… they’’re real id--ts and they’re WRONG.. Read the package and don’t work another job.
I have gamed the system for years- eff them! If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying. It’s a little dishonest, but just give the church an extra buck. ;)
Sad to see former employees gaming the system and ruining it for everyone.
And they gripe about management…. Be a better person and do the right thing.
May be worthwhile to freeze your employment history, though I'm not sure if BNYM uses this to verify whether or not employees retained new have other employment. https://employees.theworknumber.com/employee-data-freeze
May be an exception @mn1 posted but the wording is pretty clear (and I was explicitly told so about "helping" with some Uber driving for "my cousin"). I cannot get another paycheck during SUB. Just like another paycheck "disqualifies" me from unemployment - so does it from SUB.
There may be exceptions .. but I was told not to get a paycheck even a 1099.
So do not make assumptions.
No- you are fine. I know someone- a supervisor- who worked two jobs for many years: who received all her sub pay (which was quite a lot).
