Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

There's no point

I wouldn't mind being laid-off if there was a better alternative. The truth is, there isn't. Wherever we go, it'll be the same issues and the same uncaring leadership. Look around this forum at other banks. All the ones I looked at have the exact same problems that we do. Sadly, there is no way to escape this situation.

Unlike BONY, State Street is actually pretty well run. I’ve always hoped that they would acquire us but they seem to be well aware of our issues.

Credit unions have nothing to do with what we do.

Large banks have taught us that credit unions are the bad guys. I'm living proof that they are not the enemy! I left BNYM to work at a credit union after 20+ years of a career spent in large banks. This has been the single best career move of my life. Credit unions exist for the Members and as employees, we are members. We are valued, there is lots of opportunity, the pay is much better, the benefits are excellent and the culture beats banks hands down. If people realized how great credit unions are there would be no banks.

I've had my position eliminated at several companies before I came to BK and had my position eliminated. Those other companies valued their employees and at least tried to get you into other positions. They also gave plenty of warning and were very open about the timing of downsizing. I guess Jolen doesn't believe in that.

There are far too many well run banks to have a defeatist attitude.

Most companies are the same, but based on what I've seen on this site, this is one of the more active forums. State Street only has a fraction of the post volume we see here. Wells Fargo on the other hand is pretty active, but they have over 4x the employees. So yeah, don't expect other companies to have that much greener grass, but I think we can all agree BNYM has gotten pretty bad over the past few years and you're better off going somewhere else. I joined a competitor last year and I'm seeing similar issues I saw at BNYM, but you know what? They are paying me 50K more and I don't have to do any managerial duties. you might as well follow the money!
