Surrogacy Benefit - Yet another executive perk?

Saw the WF announcement for surrogacy reimbursement of $35k. Only the wealthiest people can afford a surrogate, even with the reimbursement as the average total cost is about $100k. How about making the employee potion of healthcare cheaper instead of paying a few executives back for some of their surrogate costs?

100k estimate that you hear quotes for surrogacy includes fertility treatments, medications, surrogate’s fee, maternity care, labor and delivery, etc most of which will be covered by the surrogate’s insurance or the intended parent’s insurance. 35k is about average for a surrogate’s fee these days so pretty spot on actually.

Isn't that the point though? So more people can do this that previously couldn't due to costs?

I thought this was absolutely NUTS when i read it. How about adoption. I don’t believe in the whole surrogacy thing because either there are going to be problems if it is an unknown or known person or the person is a breeder like my dogs. so same argument should you pay a high price for a breeder dog or get one from the pound. Hey why can’t i use my FSA and HSA for Vet bills. What about dogs. Where is the compassion and diversity here. My dogs are my kids why can’t i deduct them.

It’s probably mostly intended for same s-x couples (see the couple in the picture in the announcement).

It’s gaming the Best Places to Work for (Type of Person) similar to how all the universities game their US News ranking.

I don’t feel strongly about it either way. Seems that only a handful of people will use it. An insignificant amount of money per employee.

“ there are serious concerns about our aging population and ever lower birth rates right now.”

Makes sense. A solution is making it more attainable for working people to have families.. with things like healthcare, daycare, flexible work locations, access to food.. you know basic life necessities. Not punishing women or risking their lives for mis**s. People will not be electing to have children if their life is on the line or if they do not have access to basic resources to raise a child. It’s that simple. Thank the churches and corporations and government. They created this mess.

Comments here about paying people not to have children. Not arguing against that, but there are serious concerns about our aging population and ever lower birth rates right now.

How about paying us NOT to have kids? Seriously, we just passed 8 billion people world wide. Where’s the incentives for not adding more meat to the grinder.🤦🏻‍♂️

What ticked me off was that the HRA plans don’t cover $$$ for Fertility appointments BUT it does cover transsexuals for their appointments to transition…

Or how about raising tuition reimbursement? It’s been the same since I started in 2008. 5k a year doesn’t even scratch a surface for even a part time student.

How about making normal prescriptions affordable - I was laughing at the surrogacy benefit who but the people that can already afford it will be getting a perk. I mean this "perk" will impact so few people. TONE DEAF
