Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon owes you nothing

If you get laid off, be happy and thankful for the time you spent here.

This is a business. If you want control over your life, start your own company. Don’t depend on corporate America to give you a handout.

"This has always been a cradle to grave company and always will be."

HAHAHA!!! Those days are gone for the younger folks. You need to work for the government to get that opportunity.

New idea - how about instead of RIFs they just cut the contractor workforce? That's half of all the 240k resources. They could cut that every October for the next 10 years and never have another RIF.

OP - You make an assumption that people didn't choose what company they work for (applied) and companies didn't choose them (made an offer). Dropping a pink slip on someone's desk isn't how you end a multi-year relationship. Maybe tell the people you have an initiative to move their job at project inception vs 2 months before the transition date.

If it's just business and no malice , why does it need to be secret?

The company needs to understand that without employees that care it will fail. We've all been sh-t on for several years and now the results are showing, nobody is going out of their way to do anything for this company anymore. Most of us are treating the company like the company treats us, keep taking my pay and resources away and I'll do less and less, keep laying people off and adding their jobs to mine, I'm not going to do it. At some point skinny jeans and his cronies should get their head out of their as--s and figure it out. You customers are only as happy as your employees. Stop lying to us about how great our network is, how great our prices are, read the writing on the wall, customers are leaving because we are expensive and our service is going to cr-p, and they are sick of our outsourced customer service. Any 3 second google search can prove this. Listen to people in the stores and other fields, most of the decision being made by Hans are ki----g this company.

Suggestions? Do what you can and don't let anyone push you into more than you can do. You are responsible for setting your own boundaries. Some bosses help you do that and others try to suck the life out of you. Don't be a victim. Learn how to turn your phone and computer off. Get more comfortable with not being all things to everyone. Figure out what your priorities are. If you want your job to be your life, then live it. But most of us need the type of balance that only you can create. It is hard especially when people are demanding, but that's life. This advice applies to every aspect of life. I'm not saying to become a selfish A-Ho-e, but you do need to be a bit selfish with your time because you only have so much to give without taking it from somewhere else that perhaps deserves it more like your family. Spouse is #1, Kids #2

@1muu+1kQxGJMq while you are 150% right, its hard not to put your entire soul when the amount of work keeps increasing and 40 hrs is simply not enough time to get all the sh$$ done. Suggestions?

Probably the point to be taken is that you shouldn't pour your heart and soul into someone else's company because they will never appreciate you enough to have made it worth your sacrifice. With very rare exceptions.

So everyone who feels betrayed when they get laid off or are under appreciated needs to just blame themselves for being suckers. As an employee you work hard, do what you are required to do, but that whole sacrifice part of it is just you getting sucked into the feeling of wanting to make a difference in someone else's thing. Not worth it. Never sacrifice your family or your soul for your job unless you have skin in the game and even then you need to think twice about it.

Anyone who worked at Verizon for any significant amount of time were happy and thankful for their jobs. Otherwise, they would have left.

These loyal, dedicated VZ employees focused on the success of the company and NOT on padding their resume with new programming languages and technologies.

Are you saying that the RIFd, long time employees should feel happy/grateful that Verizon’s Exec Leadership was taken over by a bunch of racist/s-xist men from India who then proceeded to away their jobs and give them to their fellow countrymen in India?

Yea thanks for the untreated mental illness, and thanks for putting me in a position not to be able to make my bills.

I sacrificed my 20s for you.
