Intel chairman exits just ahead of next financial report

This is a mess. What did the Medtronic guy know about semiconductors?... not so much. He bought into Pat's 'moonshot' strategy. Now the economy is sliding into a recession. No way governments can pay the tab for all of the fab expansions and Intel can't fill them anyway. It really is turning into a cascading series of terrible decisions and exogenous shocks. Much of it predictable if you simply understand the first thing about Intel's business. TSMC chairman has recently stated that it costs 5x as much to build fabs in the US (he was talking about construction costs and didn't discuss the operating costs).

This really looks like it is all going to end quite badly. No amount of government handouts can put humpty dumpty back together again...

He will still be an independent member of the board so not a big change just a reshuffle,

Every time you say 'moonshot', we all know you're the same poster as the other ones

OP has an interesting view. Here is another, Intel has been riding the X86 architecture since the 80s and it was always a cash cow so it hid all of the other bad decisions that the company continually made. Intel is now reaching the end of that road and needs a reset to clear out the old mindsets and formulate a new vision. It is looking like this is going to happen very abruptly and in the very near future.

I doubt Intel will be gone but it will and needs to be different. How many times has AMD been called down and out but they recovered. Look at the changes they made over the past 20 years. I doubt Intel is anywhere near its bottom, mainly because they still are in denial. The recovery also won't be overnight.
