Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

No merit increase due to taking a new role.

I moved into my role early 2022. I was told by my manager it was a company decision to not give a merit increase to people who took a new role in 2022. They said the department has no control over it. Is anyone else hearing this same thing or am I being lied to?

This has been practice for some time. There used to be a cut off date for the switch, I believe it was 4Q, but it seems to be a bit longer now.

If the manager is not transparent about it, it sucks but it’s standard practice. Not just at WF, same at other companies I’ve been at.

Seems the rule of thumb. Move to a better position early in the year. They could average your old and new eligibility if you are mid year. So 5 months in old and 7 in new they could come up with a blended TVR if your bonus TVR increased

I don’t think anyone in a bonus eligible position that is at market or above is going to see more than 2.5 percent merit. If you are below market you will see a higher percentage. If you are not bonus eligible then you should see a higher merit.

You can’t really compare because each org is different and each role is different and the range is huge in the towers.

Moved to a new role in 3rd quarter 2022, got 4 percent when I moved over and got nothing for end of year. I got screwed!

I got a promotion in third quarter 2022 within my team with a pretty significant increase (20%).
Got meets on my review and only 1.5% merit increase since I got a big bump last year, which is less than the rest of my team but still something. They did give me a nice bonus though.
It all depends on your group and leadership.

Fall into the same category, no comp information yet but not expecting anything.

Control likes to spout this cr@p of no merit raise when moving into this dept. I got out in 2023 and got a merit increase in new dept.

Manager doesn't like you and told you some cr-p.

Moved early 2022 for a 20% raise. Got a 6% today. Your manager is likely misleading you.

@tdl here, as pointed out it does have a lot to do with your org BUT your manager always has the ability to move numbers. You didn’t say if you got any kind of bonus either. But they could be easily justifying no merit by looking at the base increase that (I am assuming) happened fairly shortly after your last raise and bonus for your previous position. thinking that it would be a sort of “double dip” to give you another merit 8 months later. I’m not saying this is right, just that it’s easy to envision it. It’s a business, they will do enough to keep us complacent keep us in the midline of remuneration.

I heard that this was going to be the policy, but I still received an increase despite having been promoted, and my manager was puzzled.

I moved to similar role with higher tier rating and got 8k bump last year. End of year merit increase was 6.5% after 8 months in new role. I was originally on the closer side to max. This year was 6% with exceeds. It really depends on group and type of work.

@tdl - the new role was a new job with a different title in a new department. Base salary was higher with the new role.

That's specific to you and your department. I've heard or experienced similar things in the past. Get a promotion with a decent raise, then not much the following year. They do this to spread out your raise to other folks that didn't get much the previous year

moved 6/22 got 4%. There's probably lots of factors involved and i think it needs approval.

When you say new role exactly what do you mean? Same team, new job title with different functions? Same exact job title but different tower? Did you get a merit increase as part of the role change? The devil is in the details.
